The fact is that for 1500 to 2000, you could buy a very nice pre=owned Gen Rolex, or Breitling.

Going over a grand for a rep is contrary to what the principles of rep collecting are all about. Check out the downtown AD shops, even pawnshops. Or else buy 5 amazing 300 dollar reps.

I don´t agree on that.
I´d be happy to pay more then a grand for for example a Concepta IWC Portuguese.

I think you have to compare the rep to the gen.
If you´re in for a rep that cost $5.000 used, it sure is worth to pay $1.000 if that what it takes to get a super rep of that watch.

Not to wake up this thread, but his "ornament" box is most certainly a real Rolex box, I have seen the exact box - it is a vintage box that goes with a red leather case. Those are unfinished oyster pearls on the box, not ornaments. And the other boxes are probably the newer Rolex outer boxes which are white and have an embossed crown on top.

There are much better investments out there than the most common/popular rolexs ever made.

Even with a few knocks and scratches, how much are you expecting the value to decrease? certainly not $1500 worth.

Or spend the 1500 on buying a spare case, bracelet and bezel insert and put those away in storage so you can mint up your watches one day.

Only the real limited edition watches are a REAL investment in my opinion.
