Re: 001B sneak peek

No worries, I was winding you up.

The dead giveaway on the sausage dials is the low crossbars on the letter "A".

Then there is the crown and CG on VWF's 000. If those were rep parts, I'd buy 'em by the dozens...

Re: 001B sneak peek

The thing of it is, they ARE rep parts. That was a test just to see how convincing it was. I can take orders if you'd like....

Just kidding.

Re: 001B sneak peek

I was about to say: "Where do I send the check?!?!?!?!" Not nice to play with my emotions like that, VWF.

I dunno, VWF, that cannon pin looks a little recessed and that crown might be too thin.

Re: 001B sneak peek

Trent,
i think the crown looks very good, i am sure it is 1.95 - 2 mm wide ( gen Pam 1,9mm )....the problem is the rep cut out of the CG...which is usually to bit....and makes the crown appear to be....small....installing a PALP crown....fills out this cut out more....makes it look more correct....but in reality the Palp Crown is way oversized compared to the gen ( i saw a 2.2mm ! )

real guys do not measure life in one more or less of a 10th of a Millimeter !

in my opinion....awesome looking watch !( please dont forget how much they are compared to the gen !! )

Re: 001B sneak peek

I'm afraid you've lost me, Steven.

My comment about the crown being too thin was directed at VirginiaWatchFan about his gen PAM000. I was teasing him.

My watch started life as an Angus Ultimate 111E, so it has a crown that is probably too thick (in addition to having too few teeth that are also too large).

Hooligan, this piece looks amazing. Where were you able to source the caseback? I am thinking of ordering the DSN 111E and ask for one of his Non-AR crystals and then changing the caseback. You have definitely revived my passion for closed back PAMs.

FYI, DSN's 111E is not the same as Angus 111E. 001B caseback can be sourced from Angus directly.

Re: 001B sneak peek

Yep, DSN is using a mix of "his" and "normal" cases now, so it's a coin-toss if a standard caseback will fit or not. The bigger issue, IMO, is that DSN's 111E dial is wildly inaccurate. He's using the dial from his PAM040, just with C1 lume and "L Swiss L" instead of "T-Swiss-T". The numbers/markers are WAY too thick for a 111. It would make a nice 005 dial, though (although the 6 is not exactly the right shape).

Updated pictures:

The lume looks great and the watch looks great.

So can you clear something up for me? The crown guard is thicker so that it is flush with the top of the case and curved to match the case. What models/years did Panerai do this with their crown guards?

Hey guys,
Babola glad to see you're still into the 001b :) I really want to finish this project because I had been unable to do so a while ago (was sent a defective watch) and haven't been able to source one ever since.
Not to mention I have been away for a while...

Anyway, so I would need to contact Angus and get his 111E, with an OP6518 caseback, in order to have an accurate 001B right? Assuming I do the mods of course.

Be careful, read Vac's post on so-called "ultimate 111E", under Vacuum mods etc section first.
