If someone would ask, Id say its a rep... if I knew the person asking... if some random stranger would ask, Its all depending on the context and situation. I.e I would not tell a client of mine in a business meeting its a rep, I would rather try to avoid answering.

Cheers

i think it also depends on the quality of the rep that you're wearing at the time of being asked, as well as who is asking.

For instance, members within this forum have worn good reps to an authorised dealer. In some cases the AD has even handled their rep and still not been able to identify it as a rep. i think most reps bought from our trusted dealers looks wise can fool a lot of people. Therefore, all that's left is to look the part yourself.

Like a few of the above posts stated. If the person asking is a close friend or family memeber no point in hiding the truth. On the other hand if you happen to bump into an ex girlfriend - have fun! :)

Close friends I tell. If any one else asks I say "It really dosen't matter what I tell you, you'll make up your own mind anyway. I like good watches."

I have a friend with a genuine solid gold rolex, no-one believes it is real even though it is.

It depends. When I'm in my private jet people just assume it's a gen and won't ask. If I'm just driving my limited series Porsche around town I may admit it's a rep, but quickly change the topic to the high performance ceramic brakes.

i'll tell close friends esp those that are into watches in an effort to bring them over to the dark side.

to be honest nobody really asks me if its real or not - they just assume it is.

Never come out and say its a rep unless you are around other darksiders or geeks that may know.
If its a bad rep.....then you are on your own. Like a quartz Navitimer
If its a good rep, like a modded BR, BCE,SA, WM9Sub then just wear it. its about your confidence. If you making 30k a year and rocking a JLC crappo-tourbillon, then you deserve to be laughed at. Down the roawhen you are finally making bank and buy a gen....people will less likely believe it.
Ive always said, dont try to pull off the bliged Daytona while driving a beat up Ddge Daytona.
Here is where people chime in that'I drive a 79 Ford pick up and have gen something or other"
Maybe its a NY thing.....but if it walks like a duck....

People assume it's real. I have a mix of gens and reps like most here. I buy what would be believable in my lifestyle.
To be honest, I likely would not tell anyone it's a rep, though no one has asked me if it's a rep, so I don't tell them. Only my wife knows;)
I am not trying to steal or hustle anyone's money, so I am content this way as it allows me to by gens once in awhile and reps inbetween to quench my thirst.

Family and people I'm close to I would tell them its a rep I might lead them on for a few mins but that's it. For someone I don't know or somthing id just probly tell them it was a gift.

Everyone in my family and my close friends know its a rep. Heck I've even gotten them some too :)

I've never been questioned, but then again, not too many people around where I go to school know Panerai. I can count the number of people I've seen in my city wearing them on one hand (and trust me I look a lot). So I would assume people just dont notice or just dont care. I try to wear what I could likely afford at my age and not sport a blnged out SA or something.

But then again I do have some pieces that I cant afford (127, 201a), but I wear them because I like them and appreciate the quality of the rep.

I'll repeat what I alwaus say. In 20+ years I have never been asked about the watch I was wearing. Why? Because if you look like you should be wearing the watch in question no one will ask.

And to quote what I said the other day:

You'll find that people generally refuse to talk about or gloss over the subject. They don't want to offend anyone. Personally I don't see how you could be offended by the topic unless you are the person being described and are bothered by your own behavior. I don't care what people do and I am certainly not judging anyone. But let's be adults and call a spade a spade. There are only two reasons that someone tries to pass off a rep as real.

1. You are a poser attempting to represent yourself as something you're not.

2. You are trying to dupe someone for the purpose of profit.

Sorry but like it or not that's the way it is. But I am a fatal optimist so I prefer to believe that this doesn't apply to anyone here.
