I just wanted to let other noobs that are considering a replica know that it might not last long. I bought a sub for $140 just over 3 months ago and barely used it since I have 3 watches but it is now broke. The crown no longer screws in so it is always in the popped out position. The watch otherwise looks impressive. It was bought from a vendor listed on this site and that experience went very well but I won't be pursuing a refund since there was only a 3 month warranty and it probably wouldn't have been worth the shipping anyway. Another rep that was bought 5 months ago is already losing it's paint in some spots. It is the Tag Heuer F1 Chrono. I figure it will be wearable for a couple more months then that one will also be in the trash.

Lesson learned. I won't ever buy a replica again.

Well, you really have only a couple options here.

First, you can swear off replicas and start putting your pennies away so you can buy gens.

Or you can step down off of your sterling silver bar stool and ask for a little community assistance. I personally have about 4 replica crowns and tubes laying around here that I would be more than happy to send off to a worthy member. But you might want to "reach out" before making the statement that you did.

SOME of us take our hobby rather too seriously, and will defend her (it has to be a female because it is complicated and fickle) to the death.

If you should decide to give the replica world another chance, hit me up... I have what will make your shiny little Submariner ALL BETTER AGAIN!

Funny that most if not all of us, have replicas with long YEARS on the background, and have never had problems with them...
...Most of us also got problems with some watches in way shorter periods of time, and never left the hobby too.

This post only shows one thing for me. Quit. This hobby is not for you.
..As any hobby which requires PATIENCE and skills, or wisdom do to the right thing before crying and whining, this hobby have its rules of caring, and also it´s a game of luck on some points.
You might have had bad luck with some watches, but if you think all will be the same...just quit.

Read along the forum before parting, just have a glimpse on what the hobby is all about, and how many enthusiasts are happy with their purchases, being then recent or not, being them perfect...or sometimes not...and how they managed to go thru all the issues until they reached what they wanted.

Good luck and I hope you can find a hobby that amuses you more than this one. :D

Cheers,
Spirit.

Matt, can I ask what's the purpose of this thread? I doubt you were inconspicuously looking for help, but still...

Wow! Now Rolex is paying guys to join rep forums and talk about how crappy reps are?
I guess the theory is to try to dissuade Noobs and wait for the rest of us will die!
40 or 50 more years and... Voila!! No more rep industry!

There are those who buys replica as a watch and gives up when thing starts to break, and then there are collectors that put up with hick ups and treat it as part of the hobby rather than a tool to tell time.

OP is hot two watches he liked are ill and I have been there and done that...

That I am really suprised at is how many old member are so shallow minded with there posts..
You all seem to be more than willing to to ridcule the Op than console him..
I guess he is only the second or third time you seen an angy poster in your years here..
Do you all just have a cut and paste script ready to post to angry buyer???

I guess you all had never complained when you were a noobies even once..

I commend the poster for offering to help the NFG....

To the others seems like the same old grind with negtive meeting negtive posts, who is worse? The new guy or the guys that post the same reply month after month ???

So you bought your first rep 5 months ago, and the second 3 months ago, from a dealer on this site and yet you only joined last month?

Another very strange first post.

Nope I never did complain in fact my very first watch received had a loose hour marker. So that gave me my first chance to delve into and learn a little minor watch repairing. It was an exciting thing to take a watch apart and to really see how these replica's are made. But, I do symphathize that the OP paid good money and in exchange didnt get what we expected. On the other hand he should take advantage of this forum and use it as an intermediary between he and the dealer. I'm sure something could be worked out to a good outcome, we've seen it happen many times.

cybee,

Did you know anything about repairing watches then ?

If no did you just learn by diving in or did you read a lot first?

I would like to learn how to at least change a movement but cheap 17 L movements dont have the same stem removal method as those I see on the fourm tutorials so I am still scared to ruin a watch :)

not unlikely though we have lots of guests signed on all the time. right now we have:

In total there are 677 users online :: 358 registered, 28 hidden and 291 guests

my question is who did he buy the watch from and why was there only a 90 day warranty? a crown stripping on a sub is fairly rare. out of all my reps i have had one sub do that and it felt bad from the very beginning.

on the other hand my upo stripped 3 in the first year. now it has gen parts, no more problem. all these posts and nobody has offered to help this guy except cbr? damn guys.

if he's not mechanical somebody could have offered to change the case for him, it's easy and will have a new tube in it. even if nobody has a sub case the dealer should either offer one up or sell him one cheap.

Im not pretending to be a nice guy... Because everyone would know that was a bunch of BS.

I have tube and crown here that I can install for you. It takes about 30 minutes to swap it out, test it, seal the case up and be done...

If you want me to do it, send me a pm and I will send you the address to send it to.

unfortunately my brother after this reception he hasn't signed back in since his first post. he waited 3 months before making it. if he was a troll he would have come back to keep stirring everybody up and if he was trying to kill a dealer he would have surely named him.

nice offer, maybe he will come back and see it. :)

Yes - :p

@ the OP: there are parts in a watch that must be properly disposed of in a special manner. The only thing you can do is ship them somewhere that has the proper facilities. Fortunately, you're in luck. PM me and I'll tell you where to ship them. :p :p

Thank you all for your replies. I didn't expect to get this much attention but I knew of the chance that some might take offence to what I wrote. I am not trying to cry or complain I just wanted to give a realistic experience from the perspective of someone that is new to reps. Before I made my first purchase I read over this site quite a bit and it gave me a sense that reps are generally well made and should last a couple years or more. Since that hasn't been my experience I want to share it so others that are like me will have proper expectations.

I do enjoy working on things myself so when I have the time this will be a project. It doesn't seem to be a difficult fix nor do the parts look expensive.
