i had my daytona that i bought for puretime. and i wasnt in there pretending i had a real one. i went in there to see the real ones. and when i left i was amazed at the quality i got from my rep. if i had to rate the rep to a gen i would give it a 95% accuracy. but now having tried a real and rep from puretime. i can confidently say i will order again.
the ad saleslady complimented me on the daytona i had. she didnt ask to many questions about, nor did she make comments about its legitimacy. but maybe she knew... she was nice enough to show me gens, thou they seem to feel a bit heavier. as for the movement, the seem to appear quiet similar.

If you weren't looking at the SS models they were solid gold and should weigh quite a bit more. The reps are very good. If the movement was more reliable I'd have 6.

i looked at the other daytonas they had and a sea dweller. before i wasnt into sea dwellers but after i saw them in person they look nice. but that one was huge, looked like 44mm case. yea the ss were heavier and seem to be a bit more shinier cuz of the gold. but mine is a bit dirty so didnt shine as much

sounds like she was a good salesperson. I guess if I was an AD saleman, I'd too would be more worried about making a comission than pointing out reps. I think a dead giveaway is if you spend too much time looking at the same watch that you are already wearing.
Well I still want a gen gmtiic but I haven't found 7k laying around. :(

Why must you guys insist in wearing reps into the AD??????
You know it's bad form and you know it can harm our little hobby.

if it only was that easy...

Huh? How is it *not* that easy? I've done it a million times. Decide to go into an AD, walk past the entrance and out of site of the employees, take off watch, put in pants pocket, turn around and walk back to the entrance.

How is that hard?

Well, it's an 'uncomfortable hunk of metal' but there's always some way to get it out of sight :D

"Do you have any idea what my father had to go through to get me that watch?"

a casino has more cameras than the white house. only 1 person has made it outside running from a casino, and hes now dead, shot running from the casino....im not goin to try it there. plus the casino gives me free rooms and some cash to gamble with

What?!?!?!

You think the folks in the watch store have access to the video feeds from the casino? Honestly?

What was casino security going to do, call the store and tell them you put your own watch in your pocket prior to coming in the store? I'm 100% certain they have bigger fish to fry than that.

I'm not really too upset by guys wearing reps in an AD. So long as they are good reps, I don't have a problem with it. What I do have a problem with is when someone flaunts it. The differences is our top quality reps are so small that they would be undetectable a arms length, and in most cases would require a loupe to detect. I have found that having a nice rep on the wrist will in many cases get you access to things like better service, the ability to try on more expensive brands, and access to the bigger catalogues that are reserved for top clients. I've been on these boards for a while, and can spot a rep better than most, but if its a model that I haven't already acquired intimate knowledge about, telling the difference between rep and gen would be virtually impossible. To be able to spot the differences you need to have a knowledge of both the rep and the gen. I doubt that there is any AD employee in America that has those qualifications.

Oh, good catch, Col. I hand't even thought of that. Yes, the very last thing I would suggest is you that anyone try to play the "shell game" and try to swap their rep for the gen article. In Vegas or anywhere else!

Sheesh!

Andreww, I'm not really upset about it either. It's just generally bad form. No sense in taking unecessary risks, right?

I also agree it's bad form and have always taken off any rep before going to any AD (even if they don't sell that line). However, just to reduce the paranoia factor I have also noticed about 3/4 of the people working at the AD's don't have a clue what they are selling (unless it's a small AD not a chain store - and it is a manager or someone who repairs the gens). Of course, looking at a gen that's already on your wrist would be the giveaway - but other than that most of the monkeys at the AD probably wouldn't have a clue. The biggest proof is to just ask them to see _____________ - the over made up clerk with the cheap threads will probably want you to point to the watch you want to see because they won't know what you are asking to see.
