Does everyone wear the wrist on the left like I do? Is there a difference depending on what country you live in, or what gender you are?

These are the things that keep me up at night....okay maybe not, but I was slightly curious.

He Doc,

I wear my watch on the left hand since I had my first watch. What I almost do every night, normally at prime movie time, I put the watch for 1/2 hour or maybe 1 hour on my right wrist. When I use it on the right hand, it feels more heavy and bigger.

Left wrist here.

I guess the question is not about the country or gender, and yes about if the person is left handed or destro.
I´ve seen some left handed ppl wearing their watches on the right wrist, (But I´m left handed). and I wear it on the left wrist anyway.

The watches are designed to be easily operated with your "main" hand. as a destro, you would like to operate the crown and or pushers with the hand you have more ability with. That´s why they´re in the right side of the case. If they were in the left size of the case, you would have only your right thumb to operate it and it would not be comfortable.(that´s for pushing buttons)

Once I hurt my wrist while racing a go-kart.
...I was wearing my Rolex Datejust while driving (Thanks it was not a Daytona or a Submariner), and the funky groove on the track made it shake too much, taking some scalps of my skin. Due to this hurting, I wasn´t able to wear my watch in the left wrist, so started wearing it on the right one, and it´s indeed awful, for me. :p

I´m glad that I realized the hurting before it made some worse damage (to me and any to the watch) and that the watch didn´t get loose and left any Bracelet screw on the track, that would make me have lost a wonderful Datejust with Rhodium Dial of mine.
The Datejust works like a tank, and despite the rough day at the track, it had no issues for the movement.

Cheers,
:D

Yea true... very true... I'm glad too because then I'd be tempted to do that as well and I don't think a watch will fit on my ankle O_O lol

This question pops up every once in a while on the other forums as well.

http://www.rwg.cc/members/Poll-wrist-we ... right+left

I'm right handed and wear it on the right. Done so since high school, just to be different. The fad back then was to wear it clasp side out, dial facing in. I just wanted to be different and one up them all, and decided I'm going to go righty. In high school, standing out is a big thing.

anyways, i've gotten so used to the right side, it stays there now.

Ahh those high-school years. Thinking back, it was probably a swatch that I wore back then..if anything. In any case, it was on my left wrist.

I know some people that wear their watches dial in to this day...kind of like a loose bracelet. Weird...

Left all the way.....It just feels weird on the right and i keep looking at the left anyway...very confusing
The only time i ever wore a watch dial inwards was in the army.....when you were carrying your weapon (as a right-hander) you could still see the dial without taking your hand off it (in those days the british army used the SLR which weighed 9.9lbs...more with the Trilux sight, so not easy to hold with one hand)

@guru, why? :?:

it feels different and it also looks different. I also play with the watch in my hands or put it on the table in front of me. That is just me :D

I'm left handed. I used to wear my watch on the left hand for years, just because the majority of the people seemed to wear it that way. But then I switched to the right when someone I particularly admired wore it on the right. And that was when I also realized that wearing it on the nondominant hand made a huge amount of sense. Since I do most things with my left hand, the chances of striking or damaging the watch are much higher with it on my left. Even writing causes the watch bracelet to strike the table and scratches the heck out of it. Plus my hand is small enough (or else it's my hand's writing position) that the sensation of having the watch pinned between my wrist and the hard writing surface is uncomfortable.

Right handed and wearing the watch on the right.
Why?
I used to always smack against something (door frame, kitchen counter or similar) when I wore the watch on my left wrist.
Since the 180 degree flip no more problems.
Seems to be a motor-skill issue I guess.....
As for operating the watch with your "main" hand:
I am probably too much of a noobie to constantly control or use all operational options of my timepiece. I admit that I really just use it check the time and occasionally even the date.
Hopefully - after another 100 hours with the forum - I might qualify for more complicated tasks...
In the meantime I am just enjoying my new addiction.

Well for those guys who are wringing the weasal it is best to wear the watch on the opposite hand as getting blobs of man gravy on the Panerai might cause it to cloud up resulting in a loss of sense of time. :D

I am right handed & wear my watch on my left, my daughter is left handed & wears her watch on her right wrist. I guess it's not wearing your watch on your most dominant hand to protect it from damage & helping you to access bezel & crown. Another point AWH touched on late last year with her sister killing watches has to do with electircal interference. Only found in quartz or battery powered watches, it is said in traditional Chinese medicine your heart meridian is more sensitive down your left arm therefore to obstruct the blood flow electronically as well as putting a metallic object on it, according to belief could be more unhealthy wearing left than right. It has also been said to help heal a weak organ don't wear your watch on your left wrist or wear an automatic or self wind. I'm a bit scepital about all that although it might have some merit & this could be why I wouldn't sleep with my watch on my wrist.

I wasn't kidding either. That watch lasted eight hours on her wrist before it came to a shrieking halt (yes, it shrieked too).
