Call me a hypocrite, but selling Timezone's stuff is wrong.

Maybe I'm sensitive because I was on staff and a paid content contributor at Timezone.com for years, but to me, selling the watch repair course that they charge $50 for doesn't seem right.

I know some will say "well you're on a rep collector's site...anything goes." I won't get into the rights and wrongs of reps. I'm all for them. But Timezone is not Richemont or the Swatch Group. They're just a bunch of nice guys like the people here, and in my case, some of the very same guys.

I would actually feel better about it if the lessons were being ripped off and shared for free, like mp3s. Would you download the new U2 album and then try to sell it? No, you'd probably just share it. Why is it any different with these courses? Sure, there are people who copy DVDs/CDs and sell them on the street, but are you friends with any of them? Would you do business with them? Give them your credit card info? Your home address?

Buying a rep watch you could otherwise never afford is one thing...stealing someone's hard work which you could easily afford and selling it for profit, or even "site maintenance costs" is entirely different.

I for one would like to see the Timezone Watch Repair courses removed for sale from this site.

Look, I paid for TZ lessons myself with my own money and if I want to share what I have learned in my own paraphrased way with my own pics and share them with members for free, so what. If another members want to sell the info for a small fee and save the members here a little money, well then, good for our members. It's not like watchmaking info is not out there anyway. Just do a search and you can find many sites offering the information and tutorials.

If you're not going to "get into the rights and wrongs of reps," why bother getting into the rights and wrongs of how information on a rep site is distributed. Welcome to the Dark Side LoL.

I see it's been taken down, well you got what you wanted.

@cybee,

I think your posts where you reference TZ tutorials is fine, hell, you are giving credit where credit is due, they were good tutorials..

Reselling the tutorials was the problem.. I can respect that.. removed.. no big deal there..

@D4Me: No problem at all, least I stated my view. I love TZ. When I was taking the classes I spent much time sharing mail with the instructor and have much respect for them. I just think it is a wee bit hypocritical to say one thing is wrong while involving oneself in this hobby. That's all.

:D

Cybee, if you are saying you re-wrote a paraphrased version of the classes and that's what was being sold here, that's a different story. Strictly going by the title of the removed post which said "Timezone Lessons 1 & 2", I was under the assumption that the actual PDFs from timezone.com were being sold here. If that's not the case, then there was definitely no reason to remove them.

mcdj: Is that an old RWG1 nick? I seem to recognise it.
No mate, what cybee was refering to is his use of timezone lessons as a basis for some rather exelent tuttorials . Nothing to do with the lessons that were taken down. There is no way knowen TZ would have an issue with what he uses them for. Have a looky at some of his work here. He does a great service with what he writes.

Regards, Col.

I don't know about the TZ lessons. And I don't know what happened with Cybee either so I', not commenting on that. But I will say this. I learned th majority of what I know by cracking the books myself. As he said the info is out there. But I also learned some things from the forums as well. And I'm sure some of the posts I picked up things from were his. And I would like to think that someone has benefited from my work as a result. Maybe I'm just rambling here.
