The ones that run seconds @9 are the best bet. But I have held the belief for some time that as more time passes we will see that it is not model limited. It's just a matter of waiting for more of these stories to filter in. And they will because regardless of any warnings people are still buying them by the truckload.

Well, the problem is that there is no alternative to this movement.
Take a 3 hands mechanism : we can choose between *cough* Swiss ETA, Asian clone, the excellent DG2813, some unknown Asian 21J which usually are good enough.
But automatic chronos ?
Either go for the Seagull bi-compax, which is not enough to equip all these sexy modern chronos we get these days... or go for quartz...

That is true but were talking about a voluntary purchase here. You don't have to have it. I want to do a review on a Blacksteel. But I am going to wait. Until then if I want a chrono that bad I'm doing quartz.

Whatever happens and whatever an "embargo" on the A7750 implies, every single defective rep will be sold. That's the real problem. Rep manufacturer make 0 loss, and what we avoid to buy will be sold to someone who is less reluctant.

Agreed & that only adds to the bad vibe already associated

I own two hi-beats and one low beat without any problems to date. My friends BCE kept stopping (he's hard on watches) but I cured it by reseating/cleaning the balance assembly...

In general aren't most quartz reps not built with same case materials as their A7750 counterparts? For example, while looking at C1s there was a quartz, 21J, and hi-beat A7750 available. I went with the A7750 (chrono module busted, being returned now) mainly because the 21J has faux-chrono with useless subdials. Quartz mvt would have been OK, but can you get the same quality case with a quartz movement? Many quartz reps I see use mineral crystal faces for example. Almost like you have to go with the better movement to get the better case/face.

Wrong?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends on the watch. I had to build my Aquaracer. But that stuff really falls into the anal category.

Fakey, being anal about small things is what seperates a good rep from a not so good rep. It also drives the factories to make improvements from comments made on the forums IMO, a two way street agreed, they make more dough from the newer version but we also get better reps. Without their offerings being put under the loupe, so to speak, we'd all still be sporting pot metal reps marked 'Rolax'... :)

YEs. We were just discussing whther it was ok to wear quartz which always brings out the cat claws. Of course the goal is to put them under the loupe. Remember I started this thread. The only way to MAKE them fix this problem is to STOP buying this shit and make them take notice. Until that happens everything will remain status quo. We actually account for very little of the overall market so if we don't accomplish that at least the shit will end up in someone else's watch box rather than our membership's.

And now it's mine, as Fakey's care for detail matches my expectations of what a rep should be, and I can tell you it's as good as the A7750 counterpart :D

But indeed, often quartz versions have cheaper cases, although through Watcheden (and Timesshop to some extent) dealers dare to propose the quartz versions with the "same chassis" (sic) as the A7750 version.

For having tried a Montblanc Timewalker, an IWC Cousteau diver and an IWC Ingenieur Chrono, I can tell you it's very very close (I own an High end Timewalker and Ingenieur and therefore could compare side by side)
The difference might come from the finish as mentionned (crystal, crown etching instead of engraving, lack or different AR, cheaper strap sometimes, lack of individual serial number, lume...)
If you look for a good quartz, now it's possible, and I suspect it has always been, but it was not carried by the boards dealers who might have had more interest in selling the full version.
However, a careful check of the pictures before buying is recommended : there are cheap and "higher end" quartz versions of the same watch.

You know that one day I will regret selling that watch. Please don't rush the grief..

Ooh that brings something to mind pix. I have heard that the MB Timewalker Quartz models are pretty sweet. i may have to pony up for one of those just to see.

There's a review of one knocking around somewhere, maybe even by Pix if memory serves... :)

Sorry
But I owe you a lot, and my intention is only to confirm how I truely appreciate and value the job you did. And I'm not finished, as I want to make a pictorial as a tribute :)

The Quartz Timewalker is really nice (be careful there's a cheap version). SH is right I have reviewed it (in my review section). If you want to see it live, I can send you mine. Keep in touch by PM to avoid hijacking the thread. I have also good possibilities with TS to get a truely cheap price.

Re: A reccomendation for those looking to buy a 7750 auto

Hello,

I just got a Navitimer (seconds at nine) with the now infamous A7750, and from the start I noticed that the big seconds hand does not reset at 12:00 position but rather at 12:01 or 12:02. The watch works fine, with good timekeeping, but this is the kind of detail that really bothers me.
Being a complete noob, I am not considering opening the watch and tryoing something that I will regret.
So, should I consider this as "normal" given that we are talking about reps and not gens, or should I get back to the dealer?

Thanks for your answers.

Hi Igorius,
maybe you would like to give your Navitimer full power reserve and try again ?
I don't consider this as normal, although it happens.
I would not open the watch, rather contact the dealer for a return.

Re: A reccomendation for those looking to buy a 7750 auto

Hello,
I've had a 7750 valjoux in my Daytona since I purchased it in 1998. I've had no problem, and it is still keeping perfect time. Of course my daytona is a replica, but it has the verified Swiss 7750 series valjoux movement. It sounds like a hummingbird when it ticks, not like an easy going Omega Speedmaster manual wind automatic. The problem comes when you pay much less and opt for the asian copy of the swiss 7750. They are junk, and you are still paying anywhere from $190 to around $298.00 and then some above that. I think I got one of the best Daytona replicas out there, but I paid for it. The swiss 7750 to purchase today is around $1800.00. That info. came 2 days ago from an expert.

Regards,

Doug

I've pretty much learned not to use the chronos on my reps all that much. I have a couple that reset to like 11:59 or 12:01. I usually just run those and manually stop them at 12.
