The biggest offender seems to be the 7750 in the V2 Skyland specifically. From what I hear, the problem is not chrono related, the watch will just stop running. I have heard instances where the movement can be revived by fiddling with the fine adjustment lever, but there is still obviously an issue with this particular movement.

as we all know there are many different grades of this asian movement. i honestly feel that because this rep bombed so hard on price, the supposed bracelets and good dials that nobody received from jandrew, they purposely put cheap crap movements in the v2 trying to recoup their money from that direction. i have 3 brietlings with 7750's and they are fine. i have an navitimer from ruby about 2 weeks before her navi sale along time ago, the last v1 white dial evo that was made and a v3 evo.

jandrew lost their collective asses on the v1, promised bracelets and dials to the people that bought them and never made good on it, then sold crap movements in the v2. the v1 was supposed to be over 300.00 and that fell apart at the seems so they made their money up in another way.

obviously i could be wrong but i haven't found anything yet that shows me i am. it was their build and they had control of it. as far as i am concerned this whole mess lays at their door step. i would love to have one of these with a blue dial but i still don't trust them.

My opinion is why risk it? Just get the older models and you will be fine.

or do a movement swap with an ETA7750. this is just in the works for my black steel.

I was lucky this year to buy 5 movements from an ebay guy in St. Croix, The Watchmakers Treasure Shop. He sold brand new ETA7750 for 210 USD. I bought 5 in the Summer when the USD was low and ended up paying 140 € for one. I wish I would have bought 20     My very good friend Taka gave me this hint.
Just picked up my new blacksteel from my watchsmith and it is running now on Eta 7750

IMO you shouldn't have to spend money once you get it just to make it run.

It's the modding side of the hobby that has attracted me, especially the thought that I may one day dis assemble a movement then re assemble it and have it work. So I buy a watch and the movement breaks, great a new project.

This is WRONG to think this way were paying for something designed primarily to tell the time and when it does not do that then were not getting what were paying for.

Just my 2cents.

Re: A reccomendation for those looking to buy a 7750 auto

I would assume that the biggest problem with the A7750 is its complete lack of lubrication when delivered. Ziggy has posted many times that once serviced, the A7750 is every bit as reliable at the ETA version. So why don't they properly oil the A7750 before they stuff it into our reps? It has been theorized that this has something to do with the modified 7750s that are used in Daytonas, with seconds at the six. The extra gears that it takes to accomplish this mod put so much strain on the movement that it often fails, because the gears are not jeweled as they should be. If the movement is oiled, it can actually add more friction and render the movement impossible to start. Short story, its easier to get it to run dry, and obviously cheaper, so why bother?

Re: A reccomendation for those looking to buy a 7750 auto

Andrew,
I agree which what you are saying but this is how the rep fabs are. There are a lot of nice reps out but most of the time some parts are screwd up and the fab people do not care. We all have seen great watches and then you wonder why they put a case on a nice watch which screws up everything?

I still believe that the fabs have a lot of suppliers and just one company is doing the movements. They should oil them right from the beginning but that is maybe not written in the assembly book. On the other hand all my expansive HBB's have excellent movements in which have beeing oiled. Saying this means that I am lost. But this means also that the A7750 comes with different grades like the gen 7750.

That is exactly right...Applying lubricants requires precision and it is very easy to over-lubricate a movement, rendering it non-funtional. So given that fact they are much better coming dry from the factory and could it be that some of these movements fail because they are improperly oiled to begin with? "The single most common mistake seen in poor watch service is excessive lubrication." This would be especially true in the replica world.

oh believe me, i agree 100% with you, but if we have a nice looking watch, that has a fubar movement, it might be worth it to put a real ETA movement in it since (in theory) that ETA should last you a long, long time even if its not babied its whole life...

that being said i agree that its BS that these A7750 movements are self destructing for some unknown reason... but what can you do? :?

Just do a service on it as Andrew said. My oldest 7750 is still ticking since 2.5 years and my Daytona with sec @ 6 is also running. Maybe I am a lucky guy?

Keepers are getting the real thing......

Re: A reccomendation for those looking to buy a 7750 auto

guess its time to find someone that can service the 7750 locally then... not sure how you would go about finding someone that wouldent have an issue with it being a "replica"

I was thinking the same. I'm in Washington DC. Where do I find service for a REP?

Re: A reccomendation for those looking to buy a 7750 auto

Here are my thoughts on it. For the most part I deal primarily with non chrono watches now unless they're quartz. I just finished an Aquaracer Day/Date. In it I used an older 7750 that predates this whole debacle. I have several of these here that I know are good but there's there's no way to know what I would get. So when I run out I have no intention of buying more at least until I see some better feedback.

Re: A reccomendation for those looking to buy a 7750 auto

Hi,

a serious BUMP for this topic.

I confirm that I got 2 recently purchased A7750 (1 low beat and 1 high beat) where the small minute hand does not reset correctly (resets at 2 o'clock). I've sent back one of them to Timesshop for repair or exchange, the other will follow.

I once had this problem in the past (Omega Deville chrono) but the problem happened after a year or so, and the watch continued working flawlessly, appart from this minute hand. As far as I know, it's still running (sold it to a member)

To make it clear :
- purchased in december : Louis Vuitton Tambour Chrono : problem was immediate. Sent back and landed in China already. Should get it back after CNY
- purchased in january : HBB, after my experience of december and Fakey's post, I asked Mark to double check before sending, what he did (the Hublot Gstaat L.E. movie on his webstore is mine).
The rep ran OK for a week. Yesterday I dicovered the same reset problem. So back on its way too...

Difficult to say if I'm not lucky twice in a month or if there are really A7750 troubles these days. But both movements being different (high and low beat), so probably from 2 manufacturers I really don't know what to think.

I thought it made sense to post here, as I'm curious about other members having this very problem.

Re: A reccomendation for those looking to buy a 7750 auto

Just to clarify this subject for the Noob that i am and bearing in mind Fakeys original warning post.... are ALL A7750 movements to be considered suspect? Most of the negative comments i have seen on this movement seem to be aimed at the Secs@6 or other "unnatural" variations of the A7750.
Should i assume that something like the Tag Aquaracer chrono (yes, i've just bought one!) which uses the natural 7750 subdial layout is equally likely to explode in a shower of sparks or does it stand a better chance of survival (it's going straight off for a service and oiling holiday in any case)
Apologies if this has been covered somewhere else but i'm reading conflicting opinions about this movement here and on other forums.....

Any comments would be appreciated.......

Re: A reccomendation for those looking to buy a 7750 auto

Dont know if i'm out of luck but the Ebel 1911 Discovery rep that i've purchased recently stopped working within a week. I took care of it, didnt hand wind it much and it was keeping good time. I got up one morning to find that the watch has stopped and i couldnt hand wind the watch as the crown was very stiff. Swirling the watch couldnt get it to tick either. Its now back in China.

Re: A reccomendation for those looking to buy a 7750 auto

When I had my problems with my first DSN PAM 089 and asked about the A7750 (which powers it), what I gathered here form the forum was that it was all of the new genreation high beat A7750s that were suspect, not just the ones on particular watches. My replacement 089 so far runs great but your collective comments have me anxious. I half expect to wake up some morning and to disciver it has died from a heart attack overnight. That's no fun!
