I can´t see any of the pics...

Dunno what´s happening with my connection nowadays...there are some threads on this forum that I´m just unable to see the pics. Some from Doc, some from fakey, and other members too...

Could you e-mail me the original pics for my e-mail, please?

Thanks in advance,
Spirit.

Thanks for the pics, Doc. I know a lot of people have been itching to see what these looked like. HK-- now that you've seen the pics, how does it look in comparision to your gen?

the clasp looks pretty good, better than i had previously thought. i would like to handle it to see how it works. the bezel insert looks like it sits about right, being just below the bezel it's self. the general finishing of the watch looks rough around the edges and the polished surfaces aren't smooth enough, the other flaws i had mention are still there. another thing i noticed is it doesn't appear to have the comfort link that you can extend when your wrist swells but i would have to handel it to tell for sure.

i still want to know about this movement, if it is an genuine eta i would like to know where they got it from since they are impossible to get now and are costing soooooo much money in other reps but not in rolex reps. i can still buy a dj or any other rolex rep with a genuine eta movement (supposedly) for the same price i could 2 years ago but we are being told that it is hard to get in a popular rep. something smells bad to me. more white lies? surly not.

i think that the eta 2824's are drying up fast from what i have been told... but that the 2836 is a lil more plentiful still... the 2824 is considered more high end and that's why you see models with it in it going for more (SFSO namely)....

it won't be long before all eta disappear...

It does have that. Also handy for when you want to wear the watch further out on the wrist.

My pictures were taken before I cleaned the "factory grime" off the watch, so they do look a little grimier than the watch looks today, after the cleaning. The bezel is much shinier after cleaning. The steel isn't 904L so it'll never match the gleam of the real deal. But then, this one is $400. You paid, $8+? I just hope the movement settles in and holds up over the long haul.

If not, I'll ship it to tictac for repair!

It's gained 7 seconds in 22 hours.

Hope you get a rep to look at so we can get those side-by-side shots.

i have been told they are dissapearing for 2 years now but all i see is the price going up. buying a watch with one in it isn't any problem at all. what is the reason for a more high end eta movement being used in a sfso rep than a rolex day date? i don't understand, the dd has 2 functions and the sfso only has 1. can somebody explain that to me? i still smell bullshit and i live out in the country in oklahoma, i know exactly what bullshit smells like.

@AllergyDoc

i paid 5,800.00 for my gen, it retailed for 5,950.00 and i got them to come down 150.00. it was before the latest price increase. i got it either the end of last october or the first of november 2007 for my 50th birthday present from my wife. with my money of course. lol

you will like the comfort link, when it gets hot and humid and your watch starts sticking to your wrist you can extend it and you are good to go, it is a kick ass innovation. i wasn't talking about the factory grim when i was mentioning the finish, mine looks like that from everyday use. if you look at some of your pictures you can see dings in the edges of the center of the sel and links/clasp. the polished areas of the links i can see the finishing marks almost like it was brushed before it was polished. i can see the same exact thing in my tw best platinum ym. that is a typical rep problem on a 200.00 rep but i expected more for 400.00. you have to remember that polishing is a labor achived finish and all of the actual labor costs on reps are nothing. these people make less than $50.00 per/wk working 12 hours a day so that part of the cost of reps is nothing.

I hope you don't take offense HK45CA, but....

You look at these pictures taken at 10x to 20x magnification and belittle everything about this watch. Come on. It's a $388 rep. There is supposed to be a difference between this and your $5,800 gen. I almost think you're belittling it because you maybe feel like it's too close to yours. You really haven't had much good to say about it since it came out.

Like I said, I hope you don't take offense. From what I've seen, It's damn nice. I can't wait to get mine.

@kbh - i think hk is fine with the watch overall except for the polishing of the watch... which at $388 you would hope that they could spend a lil more time on...

Well, it can has the flaws mentioned, but stil a damn good watch.
...Here around brazil it´s impossible to find such a quality watch yet..So, I think the 'fantasy' ones will yet be catch around the sellers for some time...
If I ever find one of these, I´ll get it for sure.

Great pics, great Rollie!

if you are happy with your purchase i am thrilled for you, why wouldn't i be? we analyze reps to find the flaws so we can make a decision if we want to spend our hard earned money on them. rolex falls into a much more critical area of this than any other rep made. it has always been that way and i don't see that stopping anytime soon. if you only want to hear the good points just read the dealers propaganda. this is our hobby, it is what we do. collectively we spend tens of thousands of dollars modding these reps to get rid of the flaws that we can't live with. i haven't even come close to picking this watch apart the way we do a submariner or a drsd. once again i am only trying to educate the membership on the things i know are wrong with this watch so they can make an informed decision on if they want to buy it. i am not doing this for any kind of personal gain because i have the gen and i am not interested in buying it. i have the watch i want, after paying 5800.00 for it last year it is now 7,000.00, do you really think i am unhappy with my purchase? this isn't the only gen rolex in this house. i paid 5,740.00 for my wife's platinum ym on her wrist 3 months ago and it is 8,100.00 out the door of my ad as we speak. trust me when i say my wife and i are very happy with the purchases i have made. :D

this watch can be done better for the money but if everybody just excepts it without saying anything they will have no motivation to do anything about it. they made so many improvements on the omega po's because of this i can't even remember how many versions there are now.

now, with all of this said, if the membership doesn't want info on this watch from somebody that owns it i will steer clear of posts concerning this watch. the only reason i posted shots of my gen on this site at all was so the membership could use them for comparison purposes in case a decent rep of this watch was made.

enjoy,

hk

I have no dog in the fight, but I DO want the gen comparisons on any watch. The closeness to the gen actually compells me to wear the watch, and the people who actually own the gen are doing everyone a favor by pointing out the differences. That way you are the best informed as HK said, and make an informed decision if that matters to you. Maybe I didn't read all the posts clearly, but informing people of flaws should be common practice. Now I guess I'm stating the obvious  Maybe people think its better etiquette to start a new post with that info...? Nice watch btw :)

OK Guys,
First I must apologize for not posting my photos. I took some and I can't find the damn cable for the camera. The wife put it somewhere and she is at the movies so they will have to wait. I have a better camera at work anyway so I will take some photos on Monday and post them then. So here is my amatuer quickie review. Please keep in mind I am only going off of comparison with photos of the Gen, I haven't had the chance to go to an AD and see it yet.

First thing that we all wondered about, the Ceramic Bezel. It looks much better in person than in the dealer photos, it does have a really nice shine to it. The numbers don't look as big in person as they do in the photos. The color depends on the light that you observe it in. In bright light the numbers look brighter than in low light. The definitly have a grey/silver tint to them in lower light. With that said, it is very impressive.

Next is the markers, the border around them is not terribly large. Perhaps bigger than the Gen. I will have to wait until I see it to make a better determination. I will say that as is typical with a lot of Reps, the lume is slightly un-even (not completely uniform) on some of the markers on my watch. Not too bright either, but I have seen worse. Crappy Chinese QC.

The Band looks really nice. I had to remove three links to fit it and thought I was going to be OK until I had one of the screws act like it was stripped. Luckily, I was able to get it done without removing that screw. So as has been reported earlier the screws in the band are an issue. The clasp is really nice, my only complaint is that there appears to be a fingerprint on the inside portion that was not wiped clean so it has imprinted itself. A little work with the Cape Cod cloth will probably remove it. My only other observation on the band is the spacing between the end link that mounts against the watch body and the second link of the band. It seems to be slightly raised and have a larger gap than the rest of the links.( I may just be looking too hard).

The Crown looks pretty nice, seems to be larger than the standard Sub Crown. Crown Guards are Fat. They look Ok to me. But without seeing the Gen I can't say for sure.

I didn't have any problem with any of the settings. Yes you can quick advance the date. I set my GMT hand for Zulu time and then set Local and don't plan to change it again. I don't want to temp fate with this movement. So far it is keeping good time.

So with all of that said. Overall I am still impressed with this watch. It looks awsome! I am definitly pleased that I got one of the first batch, especially if they aren't going to do any more of the "Correct Hand Stack" models. It wiil be getting so serious wrist time for a while. Hope this is helpful.

It's a conspriacy that has been orchestrated to drive up the costs of movements that are still available. I love the 'it's the value of the dollar thing' too. Real funny. Like they are giving their sweatshop employees rasies to adjust for inflation. :p

I like this guy. I know they all have flaws. I still think it looks great. Congrats.

just to chip in abt the ETA movement bit.

The last time I was in GZ, the dealer whipped out 3 version of an SSD. He said one was wif an asian movement made in GZ factory and the second one with movement from a Shanghai factory. The third one was the so called ETA. Price spread from the asian to the ETA is like 30-50%.

Dealer keeps saying ETA movements are less available. I believe this may have something to do with the Olympics and the need to clamp down on counterfeits as the event draws closer. You can imagine a swiss trade minister having a sig outside a stadium and then some hawker comes over and offers him a rep SSD v2.

I'm sure the factories are taking advantage of this and minting every penny they can during this so called tight supply period.

well... i will wait :p

For this rep... I don't think there is a need to rush. Yes, it's a nice watch but to rush everytime doesn't do any good most of the time.
