Smart money buys gens. How much is a 5-year old rep worth compared to a 5-year old Sub?

Great! Seraphe: We should know each other a little be bit earlier; And I'll have your really good "Model-Answer" to my wife!

Raymond :D

No prob. Just drop me PM any time you need an extra head to think with.

For bonus, just remember what you think a woman is obsessed on more than a man the next time you wanna find an excuse... e.g. shoes, sunglasses, cosmetics.

I dont care if my gen is worth what i paid for it in 2001 or not,its a watch...wanted a rolex back than and these forums were not around, didnt really think about it,bought one cause i could, and i like the reps i have far more, actually came across these forums as i was doing a search online for a gen President, hung around RWG and here, now i would have seriously kicked myself for buying that gen if i did,i could wear a rep and nobody questions me anyway...

Like i said, its a hobby for me,maybe some take this watch stuff more seriously and to those i understand about the gen bit,but i dont stare googly eyed at my gen,its just a watch and looks no better than my reps, actually worse than most... :?

Similar thought on the rep/gen preference... I'd rather not get a gen unless it's never repped.

very true there are certain watches (brands) that gain value over the years and especially if they are gold.. one example is my family owned a jewelry pawn shop and sold it after many years and my father bought a sub blue dial tt gen from someone who wanted to pawn it back in 98 and paid 3k now the watch is worth around 7k because of the market i used to own a gen sub ss black dial and unforgettably sold it about 4 years ago for 5k and paid around 3k for it 3 years before, my point is certain watches wont loss their value especially rolex (my opinion) so if i had the money i would deff own BOTH gen and rep for certain watches

It is worth it, or we wouldn't be doing it.

I love watches. I also made it a point in my life to pay for objects and not names. I'll build anything from scratch instead of purchasing it assembled if it means better quality or a lower price. Why pay $6k for an Alienware PC when you can build one with the same specs for under $2k?

I have a hard time accepting that something like an AP diver has $15,000 more work, time, and effort in it than your everyday brand name automatic with a SS case and AR'd sapphire. In my mind, it does not compute. I can justify $3-4k for something along those lines, and companies like Breitling, Tag, and many others offer similar quality and materials and movements in that price point. As a watch, a pretty tool to tell time, they are in no way inferior.

If I didn't get these watches as reps, I would never consider owning them. <$500 is play money. Even brand name watches in this pricepoint are a bit dodgy in quality (and likely come with the same movement as a rep, mineral crystal, no AR, no complications/chrono). Dollar for dollar, you get more watch when it's "fake".

Makes you kinda wonder...

What folks who can afford and only own gen watches obsess over?

Perhaps they run through hedge fund managers like folks around here seem to run through rollie sub reps in search of the Grail.

Cheers,

Bill

My wife and I moved here to Ft Myers from R.I. 27 yrs ago !!
The only difference between Sarasota and Ft Myers is the old folks...
All the Ft Myers folks go to Sarasota to visit their grandparents!!:howdy::howdy:
