As a funny post script - a busy, working photographer I know (pix every month in RS, Spin, etc.) just left me a message saying he went back to film and he couldn't wait to show me his images. Real big names I have dealt with still shoot film - but they turn it around like most people turn digital. Everyone except that handful are digital - and it shows - I hate to say it.

It will be interesting to see where things go from here...

Me too....for now.

But see that edge along the models top shin - where it meets the water/rocks? Thats my problem with digital. My eye gets lost or confused with respect to depth. Which line is in front of which. I can see by looking at it, and I know what it is...but similar edges in other photos I have seen, taken by myself and by others, look too digital to me. Where skies meet foreground - I have seen edges conflict and it bothers me about digital.

Never had that problem with film. And I also hate what sensors have forced manufacturers to do with lenses. They were sooooo much better before.

I do like the shot though Dukie. And if you love digital - all the power to ya. Keep shooting! I just miss the way light and silver worked together. (but I don't think I'll ever go back either)

rawbar27 you make a very good point. I guess for as many photo's as I take and the ease of printing copies Digital has always been my best choice since D-SLR's came about.

I still have a few film camera's like my old canon A1. I respect the use of film camera's and defiantly believe there is great use in it, and hope it never die's out.

Didn't know where to post this question, I'll PM you Dukie but maybe someone else can help. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to photography and just mess around for fun with a homemade ghetto light box and my nikon coolpix so I don't have anything fancy to work with. So far I've taken some decent pics but I'm haivng trouble with MOP dials. They always come out white, any suggestions would be grealty appreciated.

Get a KODAK GRAY card (18% middle gray) or a McBeth color checker. It is a known value. Shoot that in one frame and balance to that value - it is a constant value - and should be clickable in better photo editing programs (i.e. Photoshop).

Or buy a light meter and shoot according to the light hitting the subject - not reflecting off of your subject (as the case with all cameras with a built-in meter - which makes the whole scene gray). And shoot in manual according to what the meter suggests.

Piece of cake. Then your mother of pearl will be perfectly exposed and not under or overexposed.

Thank you rb, I'll try that today and hopefully have some better pictures come out. I've been wanting some good shots of my MOP dials. Off to the camera shop!

Thanks again,

OK, I've never posted a picture....but...I'm a Nikon man...

I've got a Nikon D70 with an 18-200 VR lens, as well as an 85mm 1.8. I also have an SB800, and I just got my first remote control for the camera. I also just installed the D200 magnifiying eyepiece. For being an "old" camera, I absolutely love it!!!
