Jazz is self-indulgent masturbation that people make us to listen to. Nothing clears a bar faster than a Jazz night.

I do listen to some jazz but after the mid 70's , nothing new and big was ever invented in jazz.

just pretty much reashed and renovated ideas of old.

Really? You're listening to the wrong stuff. There's loads of new fresh styles. You may not like it all, but it's out there.

You have my ear. Please let me know what new genres are out there.....
You want me to list every single new musical genre since the mid 70s?

Ok, I'll start with ... Punk. You may not like it, but it can't be described as something that predates the mid 70s. Next, let's go more classical and hit Minimalist Composition, like the works of Terry Reily, Philip Glass, Mike Oldfield, Steve Reich, Michael Nyman, etc. After that, we can go into any of the popular genres of the early 80s, through the Industrial Rock of the 90s to todays Art-Rock, Post-Rock and Nu-Metal. Oh, and Rap is a completely new Genre that definitely dates post-mid 70s.

I could go on and on with yards and yards of new styles, like synth-pop, electro, dance, house and other styles that only exist today because the technology is there. Innovation is rife, it's just not in Jazz.

Yeah, I bet. You're a closet Tata Young fan really. You only pretend to like that Sick Buffalo music for credibility. Yeah, I see you there.

/me runs away. :D

I listen to old prog rock a lot... Pink Floyd, Camel, Genesis (Peter Gabriel era), Marillion (Fish era), King Crimson, etc.

But Led Zeppelin and Rush are my all-time favourite bands. Rush at Madison Square Garden, NY 1994 was a mind blowing experience to me... and I became a lifetime fan (that goes without saying... you've all seen my avatar I guess). ;)

From "new" bands I like Dave Matthews Band... not the studio albums that much, but some of their live performances are stellar (I collect bootlegs). I also like Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Mars Volta, etc. I have always liked Roger Waters' and Pete Townshend's solo projects too...

Right now I'm real into The Shins, Cat Power, Death Cab for Cutie, The Killers and My Chemical Romance. But my all time favorites are The Cure, Del Amitri, Smashing Pumpkins, Wilco, Liz Phair. Hey Pugs you want to get me out of a room? Start playing Rascle Flatts or Kenny Chesney, country and me don't do well together. I have to admit though Carrie Underwood is smoking hot.

I can pretty much do anything from Sinatra to Ministry--no country though(well maybe old Johnny Cash) and no rap (although something intellegent with a social message perhaps, old school probably, like the Digable Planets or Tribe Called Quest). Currently heavy on dusting off The Smiths (I was inspired by the new film, The Queen--good flick). Thom York's Eraser, Brubeck's Time Out, Louis XIV, Beck's Information, British Sea Power (their debut--not their sophmore slump) and Sinatra's Come Dance With Me. And last night I threw Bjork with Matmos' Live at London's Royal Concert Hall DVD, into the ol' Harmon 5.1 and shut the TV off; to just listen. Quite good.

And of course:
