Different VIP ratings suggestion

Hi wonderful RWI Admin staffs, and fellow members

I wonder if you ever considered having 2 to 3 different hierarchical VIP status depending on actual contribution (either monetary donation/fee or reputation, etc). - just like our sister site does + little bit of twist.

I see recently so many new members trying to take advantage or think the orange badge is some kind of mark of superiority.

Some of them never bother to learn the rules, show respect for others, or even outright intend to scam.

How about different coloured VIP membership to show who is ACTUALLY contributing, respectful members.

People with no appreciation of this community won't bother to pay extra for that status.

It's just a suggestion and maybe there are reasons we are not doing it here... but after unusually peaked incidents of disrespectfulness, scams, and whatnot, I feel we need some measures to address it.

On bonus side, increased membership revenues from 'Higher-than-VIP' status, we could do more watch lotteries? ;-D

Good idea. I think we've all seen recently that some members are treating VIP status as a license to flaunt the rules and be disrespectful to others.

Sounds like a pain to manage. Who will be judge(s) of contribution? I think it's a good idea, but not practical to implement. Maybe if there was some magic software solution to aggregate thread rankings, it might be more practical. In the absence of that system, post count and Sales history are a good analogue.

The real danger is people who don't bother educating themselves on what VIP actually is. If you don't know VIP is, and assume you don't have to take normal precautions, the fault lies with you. Creating more complexity is only going to worsen the problem of uneducated members.

Good point..

Like i said, only a suggestion. Maybe judging by rating is an unworkable idea.
Perhaps simple monetary contribution with different degree of VIP status could work??

Good idea, although this can work the other way, that is, some will possibly more disrespectful or even more lazy to read the rules because they would think they are more entitled than others, because they have more monetary contribution. Just my 2cents

I'd like to see our "Reputation Points" shown below our screen names. I'm proud of my 9,266 points. :whistling:

BTW, for those that didn't know, you can find them under your user profile.

Keep it simple and open-minded, this is a hobby and it´s supposed to be fun. For somebody just joining, it already is like running against a wall of information. Imo the forum regulates itself, in times where everything is just the click-of-a-button away, there will always be ppl who read the instructions manual and others who don´t. Members need as much patience to guide newcomers as those need it to adapt to the rules. And some black sheep find their ways, also on ebay and everywhere else, no matter how many rules there are.

Haha ok. Good opinions from seniors and i appreciate it. . Yes we definately don't want to be nazi about membership. I thought it would be good for filtering functions as well as some financial contribution to the forum as well. ;-)

Good thought in theory. I 3 tiered payment struture possibly with of course different username font color and title. Right now any newbie can pony up the VIP solely to be able to list multiple watches or high valued watches with the only rule is 25 quality posts. Maybe for tier 1. VIP just as it is now but limit the high value sale cost lower than the 750 it is now. Teir 2 require let's say 250 quality posts and "x" amount of time on site. Tier 3 being cream of the crop. Entry could be exclusive and have perks above and beyond what VIP gets now. I know myself and plenty others here wouldn't mind spending a bit more to support the forum for that. Of course these are solely my thoughts and this is TB'S forum and he has done amazing job with it as is. 100K members, some of the best mods on any forum, not just watch related and hands down my favorite rep forum on the web
