So it has been brought to my attention (after selling several builds) that selling a super franken watch is difficult and also annoying because of thread crappers.

It's (according to some) non economical to buy a super franken rep with almost all genuine parts, even at half or less cost compared to gen. Random people come in and pooop all over the beautiful sales thread. Racking up all kinds of stories that do not belong and in the process starting vicious discussions between other members who all have various opinions about the build in question.

Therefore, I will begin this thread and let the poopers do what they enjoy the most, crap as much as they can in a literally poetic way.

Just post a link to the thread you want to crap on and crap here instead. [emoji8]

Enjoy! [emoji90]

Not ALL reps. Just Frankens. It's like a guy who buys a Harley then dumps $5000 on it "making it his vision " and wants that back at sale time. Not gonna happen. His vision may not be someone elses. If One can buy a used GEN of a $10,000 watch for $8000 which will ALWAYS have a value of $6500 and a huge market of willing buyers seeking that watch, especially pre owned, His "cost to own" is $1500.

If that same someone buys a franken for $3000 his cost to own is $3000 because as you are finding out, they are not high in demand watches and extremely hard to sell. The market is much smaller and that market is used to paying not much more than $400 for a rep. So there are two strikes going against those high dollar Franken sales.

People buy reps because they can buy a $10,000 watch for $400 and get a really good representation so good that in many cases will never be discovered a rep by even a jeweler without opening the back. I doubt many could tell a Gen dial from a Rep dial nowadays Everything is getting so good and the quality is getting scary if you ask an AD,

Personally If I can find a $2000 Gen of a $1000 Franken I am buying the gen.

I belive this is a reasonable summation of the issues selling high dollar Frankens

I don't even believe you have a watch. Would surprise me if you even exist at all.

This is funny. On a serious note, I can see where some people think it is silly to get into a rep that is north of $500. Personally, I can see it both ways.

This is a Gen ND Rolex. It looks as good as Any Rep I have seen. I do think those who have $3000 to spend on a rep will take a look at gens. Why wouldn't they? I saw his YM and loved it. It got me looking on TRF for one. Found one asking $8000. I think spending $8000 on a Gen makes better financial sense than spending $3000 or a fraken of the same watch. Gens are VERY Liquid as a re $300 Reps.
$1000+ reps have far far fewer takers.

Nice watch!
Im selling to treat myself a 1981 5513. Sourced parts for almost $4k to build the YM (parts only) i do believe that my price of $2800 is reasonable and I will keep it if it doesn't go for that price. Infact, in the case of the YM, one can buy it split it up and regain their money and then some. So the cost to own is +1200 (easy). [emoji23]

Idk... Every Franken I own has been acquired through members that care little about profit... Of maybe I just got a great deal :) either way, you can't expect to get back every red cent spent on a franken build.

Flyer I apologize if I came off crapping on your thread. I did not mean to demean your sale. It is a great price for someone who cannot swing a used Gen and wants the best they can get. The fact that I found a GEN for $8000 gave me pause. I have always had a soft spot for the Yacht Master since I bought a white dial on Canal Street 20 years ago or so.(its looks awful but still runs) The Blue Yacht Master had me wanting one. That is what drove me to your sale. But I could probably be happy with a $400 rep if I was not interested in going for a used gen.

I saw yours and his. My main issue with Rolex right now is their RSCs. They sold 600K watches last year and it takes months to get a watch serviced and has to be sent with insurance issues and it had better have all genuine parts on the watch. They won't sell parts to watchsmiths either.. For that reason I don't think I want any more gen Rolexs...But the Blue YM has called me forever. I have not been in the rep world long enough to see or understand the values and pricing. I am a cheap bastard and have no issues buying quartz Rep Chronos to avoid the 7750 movements. I don't need the detail most expect.

The only thing I love about the value of a gen Rolex is it's liquidity when I am done or want to upgrade. The same applies to used Rep SUBS on this site, They go very fast at $300

You have a phenomenal watch and obviously put a lot of time ,money, and love into it. I hope you sell it. I just think I understand why its a tough sale.

In response to everyone who calls these builds in to question. I noted in my sales thread this level of build isn't fore everyone the theory of why buy one of these instead of gen simple quantity. These builds are very high quality the gen parts will hold value just as a gen rolex will. I am not a guy that can run around with a $200 rep on my wrist with countless flaws. At the same time I do not comment on such pieces either unless I am asked to.

Lol thanks Flyer you know as well as I do the movement, dial and hands removed from the watch would sell for $2200-2500 on the gen forums or the bay. I'm not apposed to hacking up my frankens to sell them. Hell id actually get my investment back that way. But I would prefer to let someone else enjoy it.

See, this is how EYE see it...I have a half dozen of what some might consider a be "Super Franken's". I am gonna thwart TC's because I ain't gonna tell you how much money I have in them as a whole or individually BUT....they were not conceived, put into my que for enons hunting parts and eventually built to EVER sell to anyone, ever. If I did sell one, it would be to a friend in rep'dom and under the radar of a public m2m sale. PERIOD. That is just how I roll, my opinion.

Everyone gets all butt hurt over high dollar Frankens. For me when you have a watch like tagfans SD or flyers YM there isn't a point in spending twice as much or more on a gen. Those watches might as well be gen in my eyes. Yes I would but either of the two watches in question sadly I just shelled out quite a bit of cash on my Franken TT sub so I probably won't get either.
