Has anyone tried to make one out of titanium? The one on the Noob and BP obliviously isn't real titanium. Just curious if this has been tried or if there's interest in it being tried?

Seriously doubt it's titanium. Cost prohibitive and difficult to machine.

So is aluminum. Could it be colored aluminum?

Please make sure you REMOVE the case back and move it away from the watch before you test it with a magnet!

Could be real Ti, there are multiple reps made out of solid Titanium like the IWC Ingy, Pam 177, etc. Shouldn't be that hard to machine a Ti caseback.

Well here are a couple of observations: noob one is fairly dense so I doubt it is aluminum. Given its weight I doubt it it's Ti. Titanium is very light. I have a titanium exhaust that is about half the weight of stainless steel. It won't stick to a magnet so I will assume it is stainless steel like the case coated in something to look darker. Have one here that is older that has faded with time too.

There are other models of deep sea out there that may have a different material. These I have are typical noob stepped version.

after the magnetic test and both are unmagnetic, test it with mercuric chloride (HgCl2).
aluminium don't survived (only some minutes). but for titanium won't a problem.

So are you suggesting we try this? I can just see the posts now, "yep, was aluminum, now it's destroyed, where can I get another caseback?" Not so sure this is a good idea if you are not a chemist. ;)
