US Government Shutdown

I posted a comment about the United Methodist Church project Rethink Church and their agenda regarding workplace equality on Fb. I disagreed with their focus and suggested that those churches who convoluted their real purpose with social distractions are doomed. A woman from church who read the comment was so concerned that she was on the edge of calling Homeland Security.
Going off the grid simply means that I want to become as self sufficient as possible. No electric company, going solar. Anything that I can do to avoid a mortgage, banks in general, government....
Thinking of building something but haven't decided yet...

Sorry Luth, you are wrong mate. It's the entire world's problem! This shit effects all of us no matter where we are. Unfortunately only you good folk in the US can change things, we don't get a vote as to "The Leader of the Free World".
You guys are the best, you guys will dig your heels in on your side of the arguement and post links to the agenda driven "news source" of your choice to support your point. You guys sound like our effing congressman. There are clearly other things in play like special interests (on both sides) but lets not lose focus that this all has to do with raising the debt ceiling. No one flipped an off switch on the government.

While i don't agree a lot with what Obama has to say, i have to say that OBAMA DOES NOT CONTROL GAS PRICES CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF.
Nor does he control Govt spending. It almost all originates in the House of Representatives by the same idiots that don't want to pay for it and then want to blame it all on the other guy.
I think I am going to raise my debt ceiling and buy a new car and some watches.

That's a stupid answer, since I don't have any problems I'm just stating what I see in my paycheck and what I see in gas stations. I guess u don't see that.
Have you noticed gas prices are coming down rather dramatically lately. It's expected to be under $3 a gallon soon and already is in a few places. In fact, oil is back down to $100 BBL and has been falling like a rock in the last month.
And no, Obama didn't do it!
So I'm getting the inclination for some Friday oysters at the Cliff House and find out they are closed because of the shutdown. Really? It seems that the restaurant which is privately owned and sits on federal land and a national park area, the Goden Gate National Rec. Area. So the Feds won't let them stay open for business.
Shutdown=No oysters...This is going way too far now. :spank:
On a serious note I feel for those that are impacted by this and hope it all ends soon. End the wrangling, serve the oysters.

Can you elaborate on how south would pay more by flat taxes. I am curious.

Currently we have a progress federal tax system, the more you earn, the higher rate of taxes you pay.
The NE is wealthy, the south is relatively less wealthy, as a result rich states pay relatively more as do urban areas vs rural areas.
The southern states still receive a lot in government spending, in many cases more per capita because there are a lot of poorer people and more infrastructure support per capita for highways and such.
So if you look at the net contribution per capita, the highest net payers are in the North, with the liberal NE taking it in the shorts, the highest net takers tend to be in the South.
