What's 'standard protocol' with returns that go AWOL?

Hi guys - I wasn't sure where to post this, and I couldn't find any similar questions through the search function. In brief -

Bought a watch from a trusted dealer on 22nd August, it arrived on the 30th. It was dead on arrival.
Agreed with the dealer that it would be returned, and fixed/a new one sent out. I shipped it back on 3rd September, and was told it would take 10-12 working days.
As of today, the dealer tells me it has still not arrived.

Is this a waiting game? Given how far past the 10-12 day window we are, and I assume we're not going to both wait indefinitely, how are issues like this usually resolved? When I ask the dealer, they just reply 'hasn't arrived yet', and aren't offering any solution.

Thanks all

It takes forever for things to get to China for some reason. So I would just wait.

Yes, it will take a very long time for a package to delivered back to your TD, I have mine arrived in China since a month ago but my TD have not receive it yet. Probably due to mid autumn festival and national day which is only 2 weeks apart, all workers there have been in a relax mode and everything is delayed.

Good thread, I was starting to worry a bit (14 days from UK so far) but I didn't realise postage stopped as well for national holidays, feel a little better now. Just so much uncertainty with the mystery that is China post, the wait seems like forever!

Thanks for the insight guys! What's the usual limit on waiting! I don't mind waiting, but as it's been almost 6 weeks, I don't want it to get to this time next year and we are still waiting for it to arrive.

You'll have to exercise patience mate, that's why many members try to fix the issues locally and possibly get a discount on the next order.
Good luck, I'm sure it will be sorted out.

Yeah 3 or 4 weeks in most cases. I have heard as long as 3mo. to get it shipped back and shipped BACK to you. Are you really that patient?

I had one rep that took almost 6 months. The dealer, PC, got it back after over a month in transit, and his supplier of that particular watch had gone back to Taiwan. It then went to Taiwan and back to China before coming back to me. I had totally give up on ever seeing it again.

But most of the watches I've sent back have all taken between a month or two. I don't send them back any more but either fix them myself or send them to a watch-smith.

The worst part is that Im seeing "attempted delivery" when the person Im sending to didnt even see the postman, nor any notice.
Lazy workers....

Thanks for your responses guys. It still has not arrived China, and it's now been over 50 days since it departed the USA.

What should I expect from the dealer? I've paid over $300 for the watch and for return shipping now. Considering the watch was d.o.a. I'm a bit miffed, especially since this isn't the first rep I've bought from this dealer.

No it doesn't figure on there. Is that the case? In my experience sending things first class international doesn't offer any tracking in the destination country.

China customs is much more efficient with outgoing shipments. Incoming is a different story with patience being the name of the game.

Base on my past experience from shipping item to China using registered airmail, all the package I send shows on China post tracking when they arrive in China.

But I think there is a huge delay and confusion going on in China postal lately, my package which have arrive in China since early sept is coming back to me without any attempt delivery.

Me too! Forever and expensive! Chinese only like their stuff going one way...... listen this is why I've recommended and it's advised here by all in the know to always try to get a problem fixed locally if at all possible,,,,,, now forget it, order another one and one day it'll show back up when you least expect it......

Sent my PAM 236K back to mainland china on 6/30...still no word or updates regarding delivery. Local postmasters should just be clear that there is a 7% chance that your package will make it there and back.
