My Surprise Trip to Visit Emily on Vacation in Nags Head, NC
Updated 58 minutes ago on Facebook
I got this bright idea that I would surprise Emily on vacation, just so she'd have someone different to do something with. The plan: Leave at midnight this morning, be there when she wakes up. As Jane Ehrich always says, there's our plan, and there's God's plan. 4:30am things were going great, even with construction. Driving it at night was a breeze. Then the back corner of the van dipped and beautiful sparks, appeared- very similar to those you see when news stations show a vehicle in a hot pursuit that had it's tires shot out by the authorities. This time, I was not being chased.
Just as I noticed the plume of sparks, I see my tire rolling on ahead of me at 65mph.... enjoying it's new found freedom as it scampered down the 3 lane highway for a quarter mile. Wheeeeeeeeeeeee! Finally found it, rolled it back, used Poynt on my Android to find the nearest tow shop and waited.
Got a ride back to the shop, which was just up the road from Villanova, and across from a Ferrari dealership.
Fortunately, there was a train station within walking distance, met a very nice older man who gave me some great information, purchased a ticket with Greyhound and made my way home, eventually arriving at about 11:45pm.
Repair shop called me and let me know they didn't want to work on it, judging by the price they gave me of 12-$1400. I don't think so. It'll be cheaper for me to have someone put it on a car bed and haul it back to Endwell. The get what I need from Gary's and Auto Zone. At least this way I'll have a reason to do some research and modify the rear to provide a smoother, mellower ride for those stuck in the back seats.
