Let me prefice this post with this image...

I know that this place is here for a good reason...and it is...

How many times do we need to let people know that sending money to a foreign country to someone you haven't a clue...for something that is "illegal" and is manufactured by ??? and expecting what???

Heads out of asses and roll the dice...

Please no more bitching that you got screwed...Buy from Amazon...no questions asked...

I know that most folks here know what they are getting into...

Am I alone here or what???

Agreed. Lots of "noobery" lately. Sometimes, by folks who have been here for a while. This hobby is not for everyone.

There has been and will continue to be a parade of new members with supremely unrealistic expectations based in their lack of orientation to the rep game at the point they place their order, receive their rep and discover that it is not in fact a $10,000 watch procured from a dealer downtown.

And when their unrealistic expectations go unmet, they will let us know how they were wronged.

Ad infinitum.

Unfortunately, when they start doing stupid shit like filing Paypal disputes, it affects us all. I frankly would like to see the QC pics go away. It's a waste of time for TD's and I can only imagine the grief they get.

Nice perspective. Thanks for taking the time to post it.

I long for the days before there were "QC pics". Hell, those pictures should be called something else, regardless. Acknowledgment pics, confirmation pics. Something other than QC pics, since they have nothing to do with quality control.

OK, I am ranting now. Sorry. Back to our regularly scheduled thread.

Don't want QC pics to go away...here's what I want to go away...

The notion that this forum is the "policeman" of the "REP" watch buying world...

This forum is a gift to those of us who want to buy "REP" watches...

I don't believe that anyone here has any sway with the TD's other than that they too know that this forum feeds their lifeblood...

That being said, they will do what they need to to keep us happy...not a bad thing... but a relationship that still hinges on their side...they provide the product.

Col and crew have made this journey a much safer and easier thing to do...providing you know what you are getting into.

There is no need for those pictures, IMHO.

What I find works well is to send a picture of the watch that I want to the dealer. When he confirms that he can supply it, and at what price, I pay for it. I have never received a watch that did not properly match up with the picture that I sent to them.

This process does not work well with all dealers, but I have not favored all of our trusted dealers with my business.

The problems with those pictures are many. And they are well discussed elsewhere.

Just my $0.02 USD as always.

Come on guys...QC pics at the least hold the dealer to what you "paid for"...

Now nit picking the watch is something else...and that will be debated here till the :goat: come home...

(sorry...no cow icons)

Now if there is an issue you and the dealer are discussing or an aspect of the watch you have questions about to which the dealer does not have pics, then yes I can see the point of QC pics but not up front right off the bat each and every time you place an order. Especially if the dealer has photos out the wazu on his site. They do do business with other groups and if they get 300 requests for QC shots per day, how are they supposed to find the time to post them to you!

A few months ago I read a post by a buyer whose QC's clearly showed the face of the watch (a Mark XVI) wasn't properly alligned. The buyer pointed this out, and the TD remedied it.

Just one example of why i believe QC's are a nice thing.

Agreed...if you want pics upfront then ask...if dealer won't supply then ???

It's between you and the dealer...

Once again...deal with this yourself!

The intent of the QC pic has become distorted by too many buyers. I think they now cause more trouble and grief than they are worth both for the buyer and seller.

Now I just recently posted about a TD who noticed a flaw in the watch I was purchasing and he automatically sent me the QC pic. It was his last watch in stock. He said he could get more but I'd have to wait or I could pick out a different watch or work out a refund. The flaw was not very noticeable so, I said ship it. Now it's on me and personally I love the watch I got! I was so impressed with this dealer I ordered another watch. He's already started emailing me and is keeping communication open and professional.

Funny thing is, I never asked for QC pics and I never initiated communication. The TD did. AND this TD has a laundry list of complainers and boohoo posts on his forum thread! 90% of those issues would have been solved if they just read the basics that just about every RWI vet has posted.

Excellent...

You worked it out with the dealer...we never had to hear about it...my point exactly!

Wingnut, I love your OP. The reason we all gravitated to this forum in the first place is that we'd been scammed or were afraid we would be. It's a terrible shame that people don't make the best use of this forum, and it's even worse when their expectations are so unrealistic.

Col and the rest of the admin do a great job, and are largely unthanked for doing so, but if you expect to deal with someone on the other side of the world, selling an illegal product that was put together by a 13 year old girl in someone's kitchen, that works 14 hours a day for a pittance, and then have the thing sent to you by one of the worst postal services in the world, and expect every deal to be 100% perfect, just because the dealer is called a TD, then IMO you are not too tightly wrapped.

Just like everybody else here, I get caught up in the buzz of ordering something, and then the wait, and the expectation, etc. etc. - but I never lose sight of the fact that if there was a shop next door to 'Watches of Switzerland', called 'Reps of Guangzhou', that's prolly where I'd be right now.
