I was looking at this dealer here

http://www.ebay.com/sch/adwatch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

and I was wondering why there are so many pre-owned genuine watches in a place like Singapore. I am also seeing a lot of dealers from Hong Kong selling gens and they have amazing feedback. Am I missing something here? Any input would be much appreciated.

Are you suggesting that Singapore and Hong Kong are some shit holes that shouldn't have so many gen watches cause they can't afford them and they only trade fakes? That, I think, is equally insulting with me assuming that you must be North American from what you just said.

Don't forget that you'll probably get stung on import duties within the EU:(

Both Singapore and Hong Kong are key financial hubs of asia, huge GDP, etc etc. Both countries have quite a huge population of affluent, have lots of ADs and boutiques as compared to neighbouring countries.

You need to read up more, mate.

I've got a few saved sellers that are second hand shops in HK and I've often wondered the same thing. There seems to be an unending supply of used watches in HK, especially Seiko.

Nothing racist about it. I'd wonder the same thing if it was in Miami or New York.

Either case, no need to be surprised. With a bit of research:

Code:
Nation Area Population Density GDP($B) GDP/cap Literacy Life-Expectancy
Singapore 269 4,740,737 17,616 $292 $61,573 93% 82
Hong Kong 426 7,122,508 16,709 $326 $45,742 94% 82
USA 3,794,100 313,232,044 83 $14,660 $46,802 99% 78

Clearly, Singaporeans have more expendable cash on hand than us Americans.

Singapore is a major financial center of Asia. I would rank Asian (time zone) financial centers as Tokyo, HK, Singapore, then Sydney.
Almost every major bank in the world has a Singapore office. Not surprising at all.

Interesting leap to take the op's post, and label it racist. He asked a simple question based on an observation.

It's not racist, but if i were to be from Singapore I would find his question insulting to my country. To suggest that it defies common sense to have so many gen watches in a place like Singapore ( how are they any different than the rest of the world?) and even more surprising to have good reviews and appear to be a legit business ( like they are a bunch of crooks that only sell fakes)
Maybe I am wrong and the question was not properly formulated. Well, OP, how is it?

I don't know where this has come from thinking people from Singapore and HK are poor? I know many for these areas and have worked with many and they all love a gen rolex and usually is TT or full gold. In fact I don't think any of them would even consider owning a rep as they can all afford gens 2-3 times over the normal working man/woman.

Nobody said that here. You are injecting something negative into what could be an interesting thread.

Personally, I've had the same question about a couple of sellers in Japan. Every time I search for Omegas a couple different sellers pop up and they always have 25 or 30 high grade vintage Omegas for sale.

It's not that I don't believe they have Omegas in Japan but how this seller has such an unending supply of choice used watches and why they are listed on ebay.com for sale in the US. My only guess is that it has something to do with currency valuations and the seller can buy in Japan and then sell in the US at a profit. Anyone one have some insight on why these sellers take the ebay/paypal risks and sell their goods in the US rather than in their home country?

Apparently they are reading something different than you and I.

Guys, seriously...

I believe the OP is asking that question due to the fact that most of our REPs come from that region...meaning that maybe these sellers could be pushing used reps instead of gens. At least, that is the way I took it.

Possible reformulation: "Hey guys, lots of used high-priced watches coming from individual sellers for really good prices. Is it possible these could be replicas or should I rely on the positive feedback"

Not everything has to be racist or taken negatively as such.

The reason these guys get supply, is that they have established themselves as a trusted source, and the sellers choose to send their watches to them for sale.
The seller, in fact gets a better price because the dealer is so well known for the specific brand. The seller also more than probably has dealt before- he may have even bought the watch from the same dealer.
These dealers are selling worldwide, you better believe that the USA is no longer the financial hub of the world, so they are just one of many avenues the bigger dealers choose to market to.
I deal with a guy in Singapore who handles specifically used Rolex. He has no shop front, doesn't advertise in the conventional manner, just sends out lists of current FS Rolex, to those who he knows are buyers of the marque.
He told me a couple of years back at the height of the financial crisis, that "all the bankers are divesting themselves of their toys", and he had a huge array of models FS. This drove the market a long way down, and its only now slowly recovering.
I sell approx 1 Rolex a month to my clients, nearly always obtained from him, as a known and trusted vendor, who is at the coal face of pricing used Rolex.
If anyone is getting the price correct, its him! So I have utmost faith that the price I am offering is in line with the rest of the world.
Some dealers are one or two brand specialists, some deal across the range. But they all know their prices VERY well, and will tell you within $50.00 what any quality used watch will sell for.
Wish I had as much market info, to be able to do the same.

Searching for an expensive gen watch brand on eBay, the results show 92% from US sellers and 8% international sellers. In that 8% a small percentage are from Singapore. The store pointed in this thread has 28 watches for sale, compared with similar stores from US that have thousands of gens for sale, I would hardly call that a lot or say Ebay is full of gens from Singapore and Hong Kong. Ebay is a worldwide store, why wouldn't there be stores from all over the world?

That's because Asia accounts for a substantial fraction of the new gen watch sales, Hong Kong and Singapore alone account for more sales than the EU or the US.

See the following report on Baselworld, Asia was at 55%, EU at 29% and America at 12% (by value).

I got the sarcasm...that said, they are people's nationalities being discussed, not their races.

Still..seems a lot of friction in the air tonight.

Perhaps we can ask the OP to clarify the question before he's hung, drawn and quartered??
