I am not a fan of Romney or Obama and hate the fact that I am forced to choose between two candidates I dislike. That said, I do feel that Romney was sharper and definitely better prepared. I find both men to be aloof and pretentious--with large telephones poles protruding from their proverbial asses. Neither offered specific details on their proposed policies--not that it matters anyway since they never actually implement the polices they promise on the campaign trail anyway. For the moment, I continue to remain undecided.

If you look at the history of the US, I'd say that slavery and discrimination in our past, are more embarrassing than not being able to balance a budget.

Slavery and discrimination were inherited social norms and you could add women's suffrage.....unfortunate yes. Not being able to balance a budget, vote for a balanced budget, etc. is more embarrassing than an inherited social norm. :frusty:

My point has always been that Healthcare should not be a luxury. It should be something accesible to everyone, no matter what your income level is.

This. The fact that people have basically been hoodwinked into opposing something that is in everyone's interest (except for private insurance companies) is really shocking. The only people that benefit from the lack of a national health care system are insurance companies and private medical providers, both groups having hugely powerful political lobbies.

Sorry Roger, but that makes no sense at all. In Ma, the rich town can help support the poorer towns, so why can't the richer states help the poorer states? Exact same theory and principle.

Also, it's exactly how all insurances work. You spread the risk to many so you can lower the cost to all.

The the Heritage Foundation, a Republican think tank came up with the original theory and plan for The Affordable Care Act - Obamacare, the Republicans were loving it. Especially Mitt Romney who used that plan successfully in Ma.

As soon as a Democratic President decided to implement this Republican plan, it became the absolute worst thing imaginable....

Why does it not make sense?
It works in one of the richest states with no excess to spare
For the same plan to work nationwide MA would have to have excess to spare to the poorer states and they don't

If healthcare costs continue to spiral and people continue to live longer I don't see how any nation can provide free healthcare without very high taxes

Really ? The Defense budget continues growing because there is always a new "threat" found, that needs to be eradicated. Do you realize the disparity in our defense spending, versus other countries ? What is so wrong with scaling that back and putting a segment of it to keep people healthy ? If preventive medicine is implemented, we all will save money, and lives in the long run. Are you telling me that the United States is the only developed country that can't do this ? People live longer when they have better healthcare.

As far as unemployment rates go, you cannot equate the recession with the Great Depression. Sure, there are areas of the country that have been slaughtered, due to manufacturing and other forms of outsourcing. Not sure what any President can really do about that. The basis of Capitalism is to maximize your profits.

K... What is the point in having any government at all if all Romney wants to do is push the cost of healthcare and education onto the people and states?

Plenty of nations provide healthcare for their people! We are one of the last!

How many states put education as a priority in their budget.... I mean really? Massachusetts is an outlier here.

It's a clear message where all that money he is cutting from programs are going... The military.

You want to cut programs like PBS and planned parenthood to fund a $100,000 bolt to a tank? Seriously?

I'm not exaggerating on the cost of that bolt. I work in budget for the government! Those acquisitions happen!

There is one reason to fund the military heavily and the only people who benefit are the rich when it comes to war.

To be clear I never stated I was opposed to a healthcare overhaul and at some point we can aspire as a country to have healthcare coverage for all
Unfortunately the past few years were a bad time to institute one
Let's get the population back to work first

Main problem with healthcare is the out of control costs anyway and this coverage plan does nothing to help that

As far as comparing to great depression
Explain to me how I did that by stating worst rate since
For which I was ridiculed by you, then after I proved my statement was backed by factual evidence I an now comparing something to the great depression?
You need to look up the meaning of the word since

As a whole though, I do not disagree with your point that there that can be saved by cutting defense budgets and the wars have been a huge drain on the finances

Not looking for an Internet fight, no one wins those and actually like to think I am an Independebt or at least moderate politically

Yeah, because people on the right shit a brick at the mention of a public option/nationalized health care.

Romney's hair die job is lousy. He looks desperate.

Obama is more confident, it seems.

They both have practiced posing with a partonizing smirk.

Sorry, this is tedious. Same ol' S#!&.

Poor Lehrer. He deserves the Medal of Freedom for moderating so many debates.

They "argue" with each other. One of them becomes "popular" enough to win. The winner "argues" with Congress....Congress "argues" amongst themselves.....nothing much changes. The majority of the people trudge on as before.

These debates pander to the " low information " voters.

I felt a bit insulted by both of them.

Glassy-eyed, red-faced Romney was acting like he just came off a coke binge, and Obama seemed to have enjoyed one too many Xanies...

I was sure that after the debate, each camp would be claiming the win. This was simply not the case. I didn't hear one of the supposedly "liberal elite media" talking heads claim that Obama "won" the debate.

Most of the folks I've talked to are quite surprised about the outcome (even the "hardcore Romney supporters," if there is such a thing). Obama was lethargic and detached. Romney deserves his time in the sun after a lengthy, vicious primary season and a good "performance." As one pundit said, Obama needs to realize "he's a President, not a king."

Yep so true...The best revenge is to make the most out of life and not depend on the government for anything except free phones and cheese.
