Is there a thread that includes all current reps that are considered 'Super reps"?

Super-Rep by who's definition?
Everyone here would have a different list to some extent.

Just find the watches you like, then do a little research to discover how good the available reps are and whether or not you can live with the deficiencies.
And remember that in real life, we don't look at watches through a loupe.

Super-Rep by who's definition?

I had the same thinking when I saw the question. What is your definition of "super rep" ?

Maybe it's when the TD says "ultimate absolute improved 1:1 replica, gen fully dissected and took 10 years to create this rep"... :biglaugh:

Absolutely! thank god there are still some people left that can see through the sales slogans! :) Most can I think, but I seriously do think there are whole swathes of new recruits to reps and on the various forums who buy into this 1:1 superrep stuff like it is written in stone.

A nice rep is hardly good enough for them anymore, the displaybacks must be 100% identical to gen, the crowns must never crossthread, and all gen parts must fit. :D

I think the nitpicking has gone to a new level with this 1:1 stuff, in many cases the dealers have asked for it with the sales slogans and reps approaching $500. The coming years will be a very interesting time for reps.

Actually, yeah, a thread of the kind seems to surface every few months or so. What is the most accurate rep out of the box, what's the list of best reps, etc... I believe Robert from T4D also contributed to one a while back with some good insights. But remember: things change constantly in the rep world! I'm on my mobile and it's a pain for me to look for those old threads for you. But if I can find them, so can you. The search function is your friend. :) Oh, and yeah, like others have said, don't be fooled by the whole super rep thing. If you want a gen, you should get a gen. But I'm sure you knew that! ;)

Thanks again!

I was hoping this question wouldn't be looked at as one of those do your research and get what you like questions. I have a pam 111 and a pam 029 and I wear them all the time. They are amazing reps (what I would consider super reps). This is proabably similar to my wifes dog. People call it a teacup poodle and my wife hates that, because it is a made up word for really small dogs. But when people say teacup I understand what they are talking about. I know a super rep is someones opinion, but that is what I am looking for. I also have a Navitimer world because I love the watch, but for some reason I never wear it because it just doesn't give me the same satisfaction because it just has too many tells. I can wear my pams anywhere without a care. I am not trying to fool anyone, or am not ashamed of wearing a rep. This is hard to explain. I think it would be better for me not to get the watch I love, but to know all the best reps and choose from them. Just my opinion. I tried to find a thread on best reps, or best reps out of the box... but was unsuccessful.

For example, I did use a great Pam thread organizing the reps into catagories. I went to the pams suggested as super reps and looked through those and picked the 111 and 029. I just thought if other similar lists existed for other brands that would be cool, bc I couldn't find any.

Thanks again. I have been a member here for a few months and have grown to love this hobby and am still amazed at the quality of the members and their post in this forum. Thanks again to all of those that put so much effort into educating, organizing information, guiding, and helping others here!

cheers!

Bigjulie, I know where you're coming from, but the thing is that "super-reps" are too subjectively defined and the list is too frequently changing for any list to really be reliable or exhaustive. There's no "central rep certication agency", so every list is juts a compilation of peoples' opinions, which are sometimes very flawed.

Gotcha

I guess I will just have to resort to do what I didn't want people to tell me to do and go back to finding watches I like and researching the crap out of them. I am currently looking for a DSSD and and a Breitling SOH. The DSSD seesm to be a complicated rep with tons of options and the SOH looks like a more simple great all around rep. I am in no rush and actually enjoy just reading about them. Once I find ones I am happy with I will pull the trigger. I don't regret the Navitimer World. I actually just enjoy looking at it, just never wear it?

Thanks again

Hi bigjulie, hope you don't think I was aiming my previous post about you, I wasn't, mainly just an observation on how things in the rep game have progressed, the bar has been raised for sure, especially with some reps...pam and hublot mainly. We have a long way to go to get that sort of quality across the board.

Anyway there was a small poll on RWG 1.1 recently which might interest you, I think it is probably fairly accurate for a very small snapshot, I'll repost the results here, I'd agree that the Ebel 1911 Discovery Chrono is probably one of the best reps ever imo, with the Pam 111 and the ploprof also neck in neck.
Also bare in mind the criteria for this poll was that the rep was considered out of the box strictly without any mods. It's just a bit of fun, but maybe give you a few ideas.

Poll: Best rep ever! (103 member(s) have cast votes)

What is the best rep of all times?

  1. Ebel 1911 (14 votes [13.59%])
  2. Cartier Santos 100 (3 votes [2.91%])
  3. Panerai n00b 111 (2012) (15 votes [14.56%])
  4. Breitling Steelfish v2 (4 votes [3.88%])
  5. Tag link chrono (3 votes [2.91%])
  6. AP diver v3 (7 votes [6.80%])
  7. Hublot v6 (3 votes [2.91%])
  8. IWC 3717 (5 votes [4.85%])
  9. TC Sub (2012) (8 votes [7.77%])
  10. WM9 V2 (12 votes [11.65%])
  11. Panerai n00b 029 (5 votes [4.85%])
  12. Panerai n00b 326 (2 votes [1.94%])
  13. Panerai H-maker 390 (5 votes [4.85%])
  14. Panerai 288k (9 votes [8.74%])
  15. Rolex Explorer I 36mm (0 votes [0.00%])
  16. Breitling Chrono Avenger (2004) (1 votes [0.97%])
  17. Omega SMP chrono (old model) (3 votes [2.91%])
  18. Breitling Skyland v2 (0 votes [0.00%])
  19. Chopard GTXXL Chrono (3 votes [2.91%])
  20. Omega Speedmaster Date (1 votes [0.97%])

What is the best rep of all times?

  1. Omega Ploprof V2 (15 votes [48.39%])
  2. Sinn U1 (11 votes [35.48%])
  3. Hublot Diver 4000m (5 votes [16.13%])

This is exactly the kind of posts I was looking for!

Glad you like it :D
Not everyone will agree with the list, but tbh the people who voted in this list were the likes of By Tor and other long time established very knowledgeable people in the rep game so it does have some interesting opinions. At the same time it still was just a bit of fun. The conditions for a rep to be considered for the list were very high, and as you can see from the list, very highly regarded replications such as the Rolex Explorer I 36mm didn't even get a vote.

Ebel Discovery, Santos (the 1.5k one), and one of the De-Wits are probably the three most accurate but the ploppy V2 is not too far behind. Mind you the Santos is a back door gen so it doesn't really count. By the time TC has finished with the sub it may well end up in third place. The Ebel is perfect, the only tell (and I've seen it side by side with the gen) is the pushers are about 1mm too long. Swap them and there is no difference.

BTW, I think you will find that poll was on RWG2 (aka rwg.cc, aka TCLKC) not RWG1.1

I dont look for best replicas of all time, I look for the best replica in the watch that I want......I could care less for most of the watches mentioned in the above list. Cartier is one of the ugliest watches ever made in my eyes.

I might not like Panerai but their high end reps are very close to the genuine Pams that you cant distinguish the difference even when they are side by side so kudos to the rep makers for Panerai.

Best rep ever created is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to liking what you see unless you have a gen next to each watch mentioned above & you can see the flaws, if there are any..........

I also posted something like this where I was asking people to post the best out of the box reps. My plan was to buy those ones because they would be the closest to the GENs. I found the rep of the year 2011 thread and proceeded to look at all the watches that were nominated. I didn't like too many of them. Then I realized that who cares which watch is closest to the gen if I don't like it? Buy what you like, you will be happier. How many people will ever get close enough to call you out on a rep anyway? Of those people that get close enough how many actually CAN call you out?
