Im new to the vintage Rolex topic, and found a couple of cheapies that I wanted to try out to see if I like them. I have found a 5512 from Silix and a 5513 from Hont. I know that both will likely have inaccuracies but I am a big believer in the 10 foot rule.

I understand that the Gen 5513 is cheaper due to there being more produced than the 5512, but even the 5512 can be had for under $10k if I understand correctly.

Having said that, Id like to know user opinion on which I should get, or just get both and sell the one I dont like through the forum.

Thanks for the input.

I've had the both reps. Take my advice - stump up a little more and get the 'cartel' 5512 or 5513 (the only difference is of course the extra two lines on the dial lettering). They take some gen parts - and trust me you'll want to swap the crystal to a T-19 and probably do a crown swap too. Check out my sales thread for the franken 5512 I sold a month or do ago - I still miss it ;-(

I know i replied in chatbox, but I think the 5512 for historical reasons is the way to go :)

I think the 5513 is a more realistic watch to pull off and I find the minimalistic dial cleaner and less 'busy'. I settled for a red 1680 as my one and only vintage Rollie - I love the over-magged date and flat-top crystal...

My understanding, based on a pretty detailed thread over on RG a year ago, is that the Cartel 5513 is a bit better out of the box and requires fewer mods than the Cartel 5512. Crown guards, being one of them.

The 5512 requires more basic work to it but has that historical presence that the dime a dozen 5513 doesn't have.

In the end, it's your call! You could always get both... ;)

The two pictured above are exactly the same case with a slightly different dial. Neither of these are what the cartel are currently offering.

I always thought Cartel referred to Josh and Andrew at PC and Trusty Time. I bought my first ever rep from the latter many moons ago. They're not TDs here but I've found them very reliable for a couple of transactions and Josh has a special promotion on the vintage Rollies.

I've got Trevors 5512 and it definitely seems to be a slightly smaller case than gen.
I've been advised to get the cartel version.
I'd like to know 100% though.

My favourite is 5513, because I prefer the clear dial with only two lines.

But I'm hesitating to buy it, because of the colour of the dots. I don't like so much the yellow I see on dealer's websites pictures.

How are they actually ? Do they look like gen, or is it obviously a fake colour ?

Sorry to hijack the thread but i currently have a 5512 from Trevor and have just put a Clark crystal on it. Now the bezel doesn't fit! It's just so loose that it simply falls off the watch.

Any ideas?

They all look yellow and not naturally aged. Vintage Subs will take you down the same modding/frankening/improving road on which many Pam owners travel.

So.... You didn't order the quick-change bezel option? ;-)
Sounds like a retainer ring issue.

What does this mean?

Have I ordered the wrong crystal. It looks so much nicer than the original. Would be a shame if I couldn't use it.

I may have to glue the bezel in place.

Thanks for the answer. That's exactly what I wanted to avoid, because I prefer to make things simple and try to find good reps "out of the box".

Anyway, I like this model so much, I'll probably buy it and look for someone who'd be able to relume it.
