Not trying to be a jerk either, but save the trouble & just go with a Yuki dial.

The best you could do with that dial is just lose the markers & lume directly on the dial.

I strongly agree with him. Yuki are reasonably priced. I had that same dial spent money to have pbdad lume it for me Still wasnt happy with it The coronet bugged me and the indices just didnt look rite! So even if u do a banging job on the indices They dial still woudnt look no were near gen See if the owner wants to swapped it with a yuki?. Which I thought look decent. I had rhe yuki for a while Then I swapped the yuki for a gen.

I am no lume expert but based on reading posts from others who are I wonder if using a thinner base with the lume would help it to spread and dry a little thinner/flatter?

Thanks for not taking it the wrong way, it means a lot to me.

This was what i was thinking if i used the indices, if I make it too thin though it will run and not hold as much powder in the mix, this might not really be an issue on an older dial though, from the pics you posted they are very inconsistent patterns. I was thinking of painting the white bases and then luming on top of that, like the pics.

Not trying to be a jerk either, but save the trouble & just go with a Yuki dial.

The best you could do with that dial is just lose the markers & lume directly on the dial.

If Rob wants to buy a Yuki I'm down. Im just working with what was supplied and i think i can do it. I love a challenge :)

Rick, I should have mentioned to you the dial markers and how they were installed as opposed to being applied directly to the dial.

If you plan to use this dial I would advise you bond the hell out of them or they will fall out of the pin holes they are slid into.

If you could apply the lume directly to the dial you me get the results you want, or mabye Rob will like the dial as is. I can tell you that the handstack on that 2836 has very little room to spare above the dial so it is possible the gmt hand can get stuck.

I like to see the progress here, I hope mine is coming along as well.

Can't wait to see the final product, I know Rob will be stoked.

I found that out after tearing into the watch, i was thinking they were painted on like the 1680/mil type dials. I thought it was worth a shot, but was really unsure since they were so puffy and high.

I think lume to the dial has to be the way to go for height issues and like ThinkBachs showed, visually its not Gen like.

Guys I really do appreciated all the help, and I dont take offense to what you guys say........just dont talk of about Texas:txrob:, Ya hear! lol =P

OK, After TB much appreciated honest input, I went back to the drawing board. I have lumed painted dial before, but this is my first dial to lume directly to the dial with no previous lume as a guide. I was after the combined look of 2 pics TB posted up(the first 2 pics). I'm not sure I'm quite happy with the 5 and 6 hour markers yet, let me know what you guys think. I didn't paint the bases this time. I triad a few ways to do this but wasn't happy with the results. Ive seen a few dial since the last post that have painted bases and many that don't. I'm figuring this is an acceptable version . Thanks again for all the input.

Dials I was drawing inspiration from:

Let me know what you guys think. Rob was wanting something a little grainy and with a little discolored yellow. Ill add that once the shape is right.

Instead of going with lume, how would acrylic paint look? Tritium this old wouldn't have any glow left anyway. You could match the patina and texture nearly perfectly.

That's a good point. A 1675 dial wouldn't glow like a torch any more. Unless its a service replacement dial. But I wouldn't put to much time on that dial. Has too many flaws IMHO

Can you mask off those areas for luming? I have a paper drill and I could drill the rounds out easily. The problem is getting the right sized drill bit. Mostly standard fractional sizes. I think you are on to something here. It sure would nice to have a pad printer. Lol

Thanks for posting this.

UPDATE:

So after redoing the dial, I started working on the bezel assembly. I found that the rep bezel mounting ring(the one that mounts to the crystal) would not fit inside the Clark bezel ring.
After a lot of work i got it to fit but was not secure and would fall out with a little turning. I have also found out that the WSO is the same way.
Rob was able to work his Texas Charm :txrob:and talked to Clark and got his hands on a unreleased prototype bezel assembly. Concidering it is still in prototype stages this thing is really frign nice. It spins with little effort, not freely though. The insert snaps right into place. I Think the finish could use a little work but i can do that pretty simply. The scalops on it are as good as ive seen, angle looks right too. This is supposed to be a direct replacement for a gen bezel. Im so exicted to see the final i cant wait but i have to. Rob has a ETA 2846 to go into it, so ill be doing that before assembly. I just hope i get everything before i go on vacation lol
And what youve been waiting for the pictures

Im thinking so bud, but i dont want to say for sure until its done. The test fit seemed to be perfect though. After Rob explained to Clark the issue we were having he had this to offer to try. He said if we liked or had any tweeks that should be made to tell him and he would convey them to the manufacture.
