I would never trust a TD for complete watch servicing. If you're not real good with fiddling around with movements, the safe bet is to let someone like Katt on this forum do it for you. Little $$, great service, no headache or trashed keyworks. :)

Yep there is but is a lot of work and you need some expensive tools and oils. it doens worth the investment if you are planing to service just one watch.

I trashed keyworks. :)

Good call TB
Number one problem I run into with rep movements.

Word of advise: Send it to a pro. Unless you are going to buy the correct oil and follow the oil chart. Your asking for trouble.

For a rep with 2836-2 should you wear it for a year or two then send it for a lube? Will it even last that long?

OH man!! everyone KNOWS to soak it in heavy duty GEAR oil because of all the gears in the watch!! Using WD-40 on it is like polishing a turd!!

They'll last longer than that. I've had a few going strong for 4+ years now keeping perfect time. I'm waiting to see how long they'll go before failure so I can take them apart to see what failed, then repair and service.. I'm still waiting... :)

Never try to oil it yourself. There are some places that cannot have any oil, if you do, you could stop your watch. If you are not familar with oiling watch movements, spend a few dollars with someone who does, you will find it well worth the investment, and be very pleased with the results.

Really? I've yet to see any rep movements with oil. Lots of the 28XXs do come with the extra "grains of sand" or "Asian hair" option.....no up charge either!!!

The cheap, synthetic ruby jewels do a superb job reducing friction in most watches, including our reps....Swiss Eta actually publishes how to properly oil their movements and is not something you would want to do on your own, unless you're a watchsmith, of course! ....:maty:

You cant just crack open the watch and just start oiling. When I oil an eta I use 3 different mobius oils and 2 different greases, The whole movement needs to be broken down cleaned of all the old oil and crap then oiled. It's not just a 1,2,3 job. One.day sign ill do a step by step on a break down, cleaning and oiling of an eta movement. I've done about 8 in the last month and everytime I finish, then I remember I should of took pictures. :banghead:
