LOL I remember when my uncle got a gen panerai about 20 years ago. I remember laughing at it and my cousin and I referred to it as the wrist cuckoo clock and the blind man's big ben. I never thought they were going to take off like they did. Personally, I think the two main reasons are good marketing and the case size. I like some of them and the 89 with anthracite dial is one of my fave watches. I never liked the fiddies and some of the other models though. But you certainly can't fault some of their designs.

I think for me it has been a natural progression. I prefer the older models, but there's a certain mile metri prototype that has been giving me some good ideas.

Ok don't all pile on here-I am posting in the flame free zone, but why all the fuss over Panerai? I just don't see it. Large plain and unexceptional in many respects, sort of like the watch equivalent of a Brooks Brothers shirt. Nice but forgetable: I feel like I must be missing something here personal taste aside because there are hundreds of interesting reps out there yet large numbers of Panerai fans. We are talking about reps here so the amazing genuine movements and materials of real Panerai's are not part of the rep equation. That said, I respect everyone's own individual taste, I do not yet understand the Panerai movement. Waiting for enlightenment.

You'd find a similar question raised by me here were you to search back a few months. Needless to say I have one now and it's my fave rep by far.

I know they all look the same and look plain, but one day a gen in the AD will catch your eye and then all will be revealed!

You're right! I never got the Rolex thing!!!!! Don't understand all the fuzz about them.

I was at an AD yesterday and there were 3 cases full of rollies. They just look like a rich, senior citizen watches to me. The first thing my girl said was "those look they they're for an old man." Again, just my .02. To each his own.

I am one of the longest hold outs for the this whole Pam, Pamb, Pan thing. I have called them fisher price watches (got that from Seanf) and toy watches and so on. After a 177, 3 or 4 111's, an 063... I finally hit up on an Arktos of all things.. Now a 243...

I don't know... You don't try to get/understand Panerai, it selects you. ;)

You only quote Seanf because you're leaning to the other "side". Please don't tell me you switched teams on me?

I had the same thoughts as you, until I saw one in the wild.
It took me only a month to switch the thoughts of an ugly watch to one of simple beauty. I never like the many subdials that complicates the face, period.

Other main attractions of the PAM is the superlume, quite nice out of the box
Plus a varieties of straps are so easily available for PAM. And is one of the watch where people can regconise at a distance.

Buy one, try it. And if you really dont like it, I believe it can be easily sold in the sales section. ;)
I recommend the Noob 111M.

Ouch! Heh, but maybe you're right, xiang! I'm approaching 65 later this month & have always been drawn to them. HOWEVER, as others have said, Pams are like an infection: they just grow on you; and once under your skin, you're doomed.

The way I see it you like what you like. There are quite a few watch brands that do nothing for me but out of respect I keep my opinions to myself. That said I like the Panerai brand and a few others as well.

Not on this planet bro. :) It's a valid statement, I mean, I didn't like Panerai. I tried and sold 3-4 111h's alone.

I like the look of a lot of PAMs but I don't think I can be a PAM person. My first PAM rep is an Arktos. It looks great and all but it's too darn big. It give me carpal tunel unless I wear it loose and I can't type with it on (I'm a computer guy) so I'm always taking it off.

Maybe it will only be good for going to a party or out to dinner?
