We are probably the biggest group of rep pro's outside of Guangzhou. Has anyone taken that knowledge and turned it into a little side biz? Anyone try selling reps, by word of mouth, craigslist, etc? I see ad's for reps in my local craigslist all the time, I wonder if those guys get any heat.

I've been around for a while but the thought of picking up a few extra RWI promo subs or whatnot never really crossed my mind. How about you?

depends on how much you plan on marking it up? if you sell a noob sub for $200 i don't think that you are any better than the scam sites on the internet...

if you plan on makin $15 to $20 extra on each watch, i guess i can go with that. you need to sell for some sort of profit for your time.

you have to watch out though. Actually had a cop show up trying to buy a rep or 2. I told him I was in a vehicle that I wasn't actually in. I saw him pull next to the vehicle and his car was unmarked with government plates...... I left, then changed my #, dumped the reps, etc...

The risk is not worth what you can make IMHO

It would be different if you were living in (even more) lawless eastern countries.

Not as easy as it may 1st appear. There are organized groups that sell to people 1-1 and if you encroach on them it may not be the police you need to worry about.

only way you would get any peace is if you buy from them at wholesale.

I have 100's of customers that buy bulk and resell but most of them are not people you would normally want to be associated with.

I am not talking about selling the odd watch on CL or to a friend of a friend of course but doing it to make the risk worth while in quantity

Listen to Robert. Read between the lines of his post , and there's some very good advice there.

Here in the States, you're asking for a major problem. Heck, I sometimes wonder if one of us will get popped by a random buyer on a FS transaction. You're selling something , that's illegal. While it may only be a watch, it's infringing on Copyright laws. Not worth the risk. Not even if you're struggling to make ends meet.

They are not interested in very-low-volume personal sales.

It is the bulk ppl that they are after.

Pretty interesting replies so far.

I hear there is a catalog that rep sellers can attain. A low grade catalog, and a high grade catalog. The catalog will run you about $200 each. A few years ago, I was given a catalog in word format as a gift, I suppose it is outdated now (not that I would use or need it anyhow.) if I even still have it.

So there is something of a rep-watch-mafia that runs the show here in CONUS? Of your 100's of customers, how many are here in the states?

I sometimes wonder if one of us will get popped by a random buyer on a FS transaction.

You think that the FS section here is something that could cause issues?

What do people think about the idea of purging the FS sub-forum data every 30 days or so, rather than leave an everlasting trail of breadcrumbs back to every single transaction, buyer and seller.

P4, there are certain things that are best not discussed on public forums. :)

With all the information we let fly here, and invite our friends and acquaintances to join, why do we halt when it comes to putting any of the pieces together? Would we be smarter to leave it half-finished? Maybe.

All we know is what we speculate, and maybe thats all it is, dig it? We cant even surmount what the real relationship is between clone and gen ETA. :biglaugh:

I can't imagine that a low volume rep seller would be very high on any law enforcement agencies priority list. However, I can't see making enough money from low volume sales for me to bother with the risk. I think I will stick to buying them instead of selling!

I've referred people to our trusted dealers and RWI, but I would hate to be the middle man and sell any reps, even if it's too friends. The second they have an issue with the watch, they'll be harassing me and it'll become my issue. Not worth the stress.

+1 I agree with both of you. I've been around the boards for a while, and I like discussing watches however I haven't bought many reps, nor sold any (save for one or two on the boards, which is more trading one rep for another).

I've referred friends to trusted dealers, it's not worth the hassle- even my own watches can become a pain in the rear. :lolcina:
