Got this watch a couple of weeks ago from Trusty and really like it. Got the Asian clone 2836 which is running within COSC specs and certainly appears as smooth as any of my other 28.8 movements.

This gray dial with green Roman markers isn't a "fantasy" model as Rolex does make this watch. For under $200 + shipping I think it's a screaming bargain.

Rehaut, in a word perfect. Coronet exactly at 12, R's at hours 7 ~ 11 and X's at the markers 1 ~ 5. Don't know why they can't get this shit right on the subs.

Dial, nice markers, good print quality and a really nice sunburst effect.

Crown, I think (?) this is right with the single bar under the coronet. I've seen some with two or three dots indicating a double or trip-lock and that's not correct.

Clasp and Bracelet: Very nice and looks like white gold to me. Polished center links exhibit a VERY small amount of "funhouse" reflections, but so little I'm sure a few polishes and it will be better.

All in all a rep I'm VERY pleased with. So in closing, if you're thinking about one of these I see no reason to wait for them to get any better. Don't really think that's going to happen unless you get the gen for around 8K.

Looks superb to me. I saw the gen one in person on quite a few occasions and your one looks very close. Enjoy it

Green markers on the grey dial are a knockout! Thanks and enjoy...

Two dots does not mean "double lock" (actually, that's what the bar means). Two dots means that the case is gold. It's correct for the Day-date and some models of the Datejust.

Sweet, looks like they've fixed the crown to show a bar now, which was one of the only 'major' tells when it was the two dots :)

I'm not 100% sure you could order this dial with just a SS case/bracelet in the gen?

Either way, does it matter - it looks great like this and only makes me want to get one even more! :D

This is supposed to be the SS & WG model. Not sure about the new 41mm models but previously if the DJ was all SS it had a smooth bezel. The fluted bezel was reserved for the SS & WG/YG.

Here's a gen (bought from this guy before so I KNOW they're real) 41mm SS & WG with a single bar under the coronet.

If you look at his other offerings you'll notice that all the SS only models have the smooth bezel. Kind of hard to see what markings are on all the crowns though....

Here's a smooth bezel all SS DJ.....

I'm finding it hard to find a Datejust I like that is exactly the same as a gen, particularly given that the Datejust II has a oyster bracelet. Personally I think a DJ needs a jubilee bracelet.

I like the one pictured, but the gen is only available in TT isn't it?

You may be right? Here's a gen from a FleaBay seller I've done business with....

http://shop.ebay.com/u$aveontime/m.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A1%257C39%253A1%257C72%253A5049&rt=nc&_ipg=25&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14.l1513&_pgn=2

But honestly I don't care. It's a beautiful watch and EVERYONE likes it. I've never gotten so many compliments before, even with the gens I used to have, broke now :-(

+1 for and with all the positive comments. Nothing left to say except, if you tire of it, I'll take it off your hands, heh!

I'm still undecided - do I buy a Datejust II in a style that I like, even if there is no gen equivalent, or do I choose one close to the gen. The eternal dilemma for rep collectors :)

I like these three, all with jubilee bracelets and therefore inaccurate. The first is the same as Tah's, and I agree it looks better as SS than TT. The silver dial is probably my favourite, although no equivalent dial exists as gen, and the black one does exist, but has a stick marker at 9, and white outline roman numerals rather than solid silver ones.

My other consideration is the size, 41mm seems a tad large for a dress-watch, and I have thin wrists. So that leads me back to the original DJ and this is the one I like, but the photo is appalling, so not sure whether to take the risk or not.

So in summary, erm, I don't know what to do.

You shouldn't sweat the bracelet. MANY gen owners swap their bracelets. In fact, at my local AD they told me they'd put any Datejust I was interested in on a jubilee, just had to wait for them to order it.

There are so many variations (easily dozens) that I doubt you'd ever be called out on a specific dial / bracelet / bezel combo. Just my 2¢

To quote Bugs Bunny regarding anyone who would "call it out"....

That's good advice, thanks. At the moment there aren't many dial options for the DJII, but I guess they'll add more over time, and not many people would know that anyway I suppose.

I'm gonna go to an AD shortly, to see how I find the 41mm size, and then I'll pull the trigger.

Edit - 41mm seems a good size, even for a small wrist. The 36mm felt like a ladies watch after trying on the 41mm. I got a catalogue and Rolex paper bag out of them too. :) I decided to go with the black dial - there's a blue dial with the same pattern (no stick marker and no numbering on the outside), and a TT black dial with gold lettering in that style too. So not too implausible/obvious a tell. Thanks to the AD for helping me decide
