Does the crazy hours function actually work in a rep?
yes, it does work. If you look at the dial each jump between hours is the same (5 hours). Wife has the pink dial and gets tons of compliments, and the hour jumps exactly on the hour.
Yes, the crazy hours functionality does work on the replica. It seems to be based on a modified 21 jewel asian movement, which is essentially a jumping hour movement, but where the hour hand jumps by 5 hours instead of 1 hour.
Im after a franck muller, but i want the best quality avaliable. Ive got a cheap crazy hour watch and it works perfectly, but feels abit cheap. Want sometime abit more better quality. Price range $300. How does the 21j and asian 2836 franck mullers compare?
I don't think there is a Frank Muller crazy hours watch with anything but a 21j Asian movement, since it needs to be a jumping hour movement that is modified to jump 5 indices every hour. If you don't care about the crazy hours complication, then you might have more choices.
As a member pointed out, in order to do the crazy complication, you need a odd shaped gear. So i presume if i get a eta movement and do the same to it, it should hopefully work!![]()
It's a bit more complicated than that, since you would have to tension the hour hand so it doesn't slip. In a typical hour hand, all the gear teeth are engaged, so there is no opportunity for the hand to slip, but in order to do a jumping hour, there has to be.a gear whose teeth are not always engaged, and when they are disengaged, there must be some way to prevent the hands from moving, so it's not just a matter of replacing one gear.
The complication is conceptually very similar to the date wheel complication or a jumping hours complication, but it would not be an easy modification to an ETA movement. Indeed, if I had to guess the modified ETA would be less reliable than the cheap 21j movement that was built specifically with this complication in mind.
Is this a suggested dealers initials ?
