I wish one of the factories would just revive the 3513.50. It's 39mm and uses a 7750 so it shouldn't be hard at all.

The basic Speedmaster movement is nearly 80 years old. It's not a challenging movement to rep (they repped a flyback chrono!), there is certainly a big enough market for it, and new ones are expensive.

It's confounding it hasn't been prepped and it's not surprising if it is repped. There are photos of rep bridges. It's being worked on. It may or may not happen.

But arguing over the price of speedmasters makes no sense? They are significantly more expensive than a rep would cost and also, and more expensive than many other watches that have been prepped - including watches with clone movements.

You could find submariners that price 6 years ago and they still repped those. Sheesh.

I’m not sure in what world this person lives that finds a used $5k watch cheap. Most people cannot afford to dish out $5k on a watch. Furthermore, buying a new speedy now is expensive.

Yeah no kidding, new speedy has a price tag that makes me take a second look every time I see it. Big boy tag now, from what seemed to be more "affordable" not that long ago.

There has to be a reason why the Speedmaster hasn’t been repped — and I don’t think it is because of how hard it would be to manufacture. Or that there isn’t enough demand. I suspect we can all agree on these points?

So it has to be something else.

My guess is it is the business of it. Some luxury brands are more aggressive than others when it comes to knock-offs (not just watches, other luxury goods). While I can’t prove it, I feel like Omega has put the word out that they will not tolerate a speedy rep.

But, I could be wrong.

we only relatively recently got a daytona movement, and it cost a crap ton to develop.

on a watch that is associated with american space supremacy.

on a watch that yes has been made for decades, but also has been through many minor movement iterations, so even which one to rep? would generally only be 'correct' or 'super' for a small window of such (though I imagine most here would take any movement version regardless)

but yea, i dont agree its not because of cost/difficulty. Severely doubt Swatch group is more litigious than rolex, but only just for one specific movement.

Also, only recently got good hybrid/clones of AP movements — AP 3120, 4302 and 4401; PF 240 and 324; Panerai P9000 & 9001 and a closer Omega 8900.

Maybe the time is near. Or maybe not, but it seems like it is almost the Speedy’s time in line.

True, sadly many of those omega coax clones are hot garbage, unless the 8900 is a different line than others.

I have a VSF Aqua Terra with an 8500/8900 clone that is running 0 sec to +2 sec/day after servicing. So, at least as long as it is working, it seems like a pretty good movement (or at least accurate). Hopefully it does not end upeing a time bomb. It looks like the new 8900. VSF/DD8800 should be better, and closer to a true clone, although not a real coaxial (so maybe more of an homage clone).
