New member/supporter, trying to get around the site and make myself known- I feel like the activity level I’m engaging in indicates chasing seller status, but I actually only want to buy 😂. Anyway, I’m always looking for somebody to talk about my favorite sport (the only one I still make time to watch) and that’s boxing. Tap in if you love the fight game too! Oh but not mma that stuff bums me out, lol.

I love boxing!

I miss the days of HBO boxing. I miss hearing the insanity of Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley...lol. I don't watch it like I wish I could because that damn MMA has taken over.

made myself feel a bit better about watching Jake Paul beat up a grandpa collecting social security by watching some old Iron Mike highlights… they really can’t match the hype and energy of the past boxing eras. Very sad

I disagree, I think boxing is amazing right now- usyk is an undisputed heavyweight champion and maybe #1 p4p fighter, Terence Crawford is dazzling, Jake Paul is a really good… ok it’s not all great. A friend of mine works with a lady who works security for a high school, and Jake Paul’s kid played an away game there a few years ago. Every time he stepped onto the field/court (can’t remember what sport it was) the kids would all taunt him just by chanting ‘Jake Paul’s your daaaaad!’ It makes me believe in the kids😂😂😂

If we still had the golden years of Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Norton, etc. Nobody would know who Jake Paul was.
All three of my kids are named after Ali- two boys then a girl and their middle names are Ali, Cassius, and because my wife wouldn’t let my daughters middle name be ‘greatest’ we settled on bee- as in float like a butterfly…’

I know it’s very slow in the non watch parts of the site lol

Where are you based?

That was a UK HW match last night

Dave Allen v Jonny Fisher, quite good

I’m not sure with Canelo v Crawford, depends how Crawford is at 168. He would only win on points as no one can stop Canelo

No, I’m in the states in the northwest. I have a love/hate relationship with British boxing, you guys have the worst promoters and the best fans. I don’t think crawford stops canelo either, but I’ve been saying for a couple years now he can beat him- so crawford is my pick.

Also I believe Benavidez stops cabelo at 175, as does beterbiev- but I understand why youd say nobody can- he’s incredibly tough and has such great instincts in the ring.

I’m not sure about the worst promotors, Eddie Hearn / love him or hate him is hands down the no1 boxing promotor in the world.

If Crawford fights smart like mayweather did then he can take a points win but he has to be on it the full 12 rounds. I wasn’t overly impressed with his fight at 154

Yeah Benavidez looks like he will beat him, Canelo seems scared of him. Bivol & Beterbiev would too

It’s funny, crawford had a career best with Spence and then a tough first fight at 54 and wins majority of the rounds but didn’t really have that same demeanor for it- I didn’t score many rounds against him, but I think expectations were very high for a lot of folks- I can’t really call it a bad night for him though.

I’m not entirely sure what to make of Eddie Hearn, to be honest with you- he appears to fail up better than anybody else in the sport. In his sefense, the whole format of televising fights has changed very dramatically over the last decade or so- although it is partially because of him. I do think he’s horribly mismanaged both dazn and Joshua’s career… it’s sort of hard to see the saudis being a great long term partner for him, but what do I know?

A guy like canelo, I don’t think he’s scared of Benavidez but I think he’s taken the Floyd path to optimum profit for minimum risk to the next level. I think he figures he can keep getting 60 million to fight guys that have silent agreements with him or he can make 100 million for Benavidez and take a real risk to the brand. I wouldn’t be surprised if that fight was a golden parachute for him. Hes got the best resume in the sport, hes an all time great as a Mexican fighter and at 168, but the things that impressed me about him legacy wise are pretty firmly in the rear view mirror. Still an incredible fighter, but feeling more like a product today- and it’s worth noting that even at his best he had a great team and was maybe the most protected fighter in history. We’re talking about the 22 year old fighter that lost just about every round to Floyd himself and got a draw on one official scorecard…

Let’s not forget GGG beat him easily in that first fight and probably just edged the second.
He came out of the trilogy 2 wins and a draw, it should have been 2 losses and a win

My first scorecard I had it a win for ggg, second I wasn’t sure and thought a draw was probably appropriate, and of course the third was a clear win for canelo. I always felt really bad for ggg in regards to canelo- he wanted canelo immediately but had to wait a couple years after canelo won his first title while canelo waited for him to get older- he actually waited until after ggg struggled with Danny Jacobs. Ggg pretty clearly wins the fight, loses the event and the decision in what I consider absurd judging at best. Come the rematch, canelo gets popped for clenbuterol and comes up with the bogus excuse of Mexican meat, fight gets postponed and an aging ggg has to break camp and start over. To canelos credit, he actually fought a different game plan and did better in the rematch, which had stricter drug testing- but no test appears to be unbeatable, especially with the best resources- and imo his entire career is now suspect- an opinion I hold on all caught fighters, not just him. Gets the decision- not a surprise, we know what judges do when they see him fight, still a bummer but he had more big moments in the second fight than ggg did- although ggg’s late fight push and stunning canelo late was one of the most amazing pushes I’ve ever seen in the sport, and sort of adds to what a shame it is that it all went the way it did for ggg. Because he has NO leverage for the third fight, canelo eventually gives him the last shot when he’s visibly slown down and is there just for the paycheck. If the first fight had been judged correctly, financial terms would have been advantageous for ggg, he would have been in a much stronger negotiating position, and canelos (EXCELLENT) team wouldn’t have had so much power in making terms, and canelos (EXCELLENT) ability to sell the narrative of what was happening in the fight to the judges may have further faltered. We’ll never know.
