Good morning and Happy New Year!

Not sure if everyone has seen but Panerai has quietely released a 40mm Luminor to replace the 42mm 2392.
It is 40mm across and 48mm lug to lug and looks absolutely perfect for someone with skinny wrists like I have.
Luminor Quaranta (panerai.com)
The references are 1270, 1271 and 1272

I really hope someone can make an attempt at a replica soon, maybe someone has already heard any gossip from China?

This is another step on Panerais approach to be more successful on the Chinese market, where obviously even 42mm watches are too large. As long as they dont displace the 44m-Line, I am open minded to these business plans from Richemont, but these watches simply dont have the DNA from Panerai and these commercial adventures threaten the heritage of a brand, that mainly lives from his fans. But maybe this is just a question of taste.

The chances to see a good rep from this line is imo not too big in the medium term. These watches are not as slim as the Lumior-Due-Range, but afaik they are only 12,8mm thick, which is too slim for a standard 7750-Movement-Solution. So i guess we will see minor quality Reps with a too thick case.

That makes sense, I was personally hoping for a good 1392 or 2392 rep because 42mm is fine for my 7" wrists but after having tried 005, 112 and 1312 that are all 44mm I just can not deal with the size over a longer period of time despite loving the design and the watches in general.
I hope someone figure out a decent solution despite gaining a few mm in thickness.

I think if you are a diver 47mm makes a whole lot of sense, being a master scuba diving instructor myself I use a dive computer with a large screen although my Gen Sub comes down with me as well because it can. I think someone wondering around the high street with no intention of breaching 3mm of water let alone 300m is a little silly, the reason for the 47mm was so that the diver could see it underwater clearly but that’s not required above water and a 40mm Panerai is every bit a Panerai as a 47mm. I guess it’s down to personal taste but I’m not going to judge a person for wearing a watch they like, the company is doing what they should, ever evolving.

For me, wearing a 47mm Panerai has nothing to do with water. Silly or not.

And size shouldn’t matter, and it doesn’t! Arbitrary comments like “don’t have the dna” when talking about a 44mm watch when the original was a watch specifically designed for diving and 47mm are just a strange way to judge a watch imho.

Just me, I suppose.......the design seems degenerating over the years. The three earlier designs were the best and the 2025 is the worst.
Absolutely.

And this Is true of a lot of other maisons, unfortunately....
