In the cafeteria the other week and a guy said, "Is that an Omega PO?"
I said yes.
He didn't say "Is it a GEN Omega", so...I didn't lie. But I wasn't going to say "it's a knock off" in front of 8 people. Too much explaining. If it comes up again I'll let him know. One of his classmates is the guy who introduced me to RWI anyway. Son of a B got me addicted to this stuff!

Today, wearing my Glashutte Sixties rep. A woman in my dept who knows i'm into watches said "That's a great watch. What kind is it". To her I said "It's a knockoff of a Glashutte. I love the font of the numbers", and she again commented on it. Thanked her. She wasn't turned off by it being a rep, just appreciated the classic style.

Well considering I don't have my rep yet.. been waiting since ordering on the 18th of Jan I havn't had this situation come up yet. I think you definately have to judge the situations individually. Out with some mates in the pub, 'oh nice watch' so you hand it over for a look and then you can probably talk about it a bit more. In a more public, or official situation you would probably behave very differently.

End of the line is that despite the fact that we don't own Gen watches, we still have a huge amount of interest and passion for watches and that will show through in most discussions you have. Whether someone judges you on that fact if you let them know it's a rep is their problem. Not ours.

Funny thing happened tonight out at dinner, I had my blue sub on from Lay and this old lady out of no where said, "nice watch." of course my response was "DAMN, right nice watch!! ...and it's real too lady!!!" I guess I told her.

I then left McDonalds feeling very good about myself.

I just let people assume. We normally don't have to say a word cause the watches speak for themselves. If some one wants to look at my Subs or Pams and say "what a nice watch" then I am going to take pride in my watch, and my purchase (cause price doesn't matter $300 or $10K) The only thing that matters is the item looks great and keeps time. That is 99% of the time....I have had one person that went past the hey nice watch I wish I could afford one usual speech and that was my boss. When he seen my first one it was ok he must have inherited a watch, then after I ordered 3 at one time, he asked me where I got it from and I introduced him into the world and the fourm. He already owned a GEN Omega, but now he has like 12 all the way from AP-Tag.....and he just lets people admire them as well. We just don't go out of our way to tell everyone that our watches are fake and we deal in counterfeit goods....I believe that would lead up to more damage than good....so if any of you are wondering if my watch is real...then my answer is does it give you accurate time? Can you wear it? Can you feel it? Is seeing believing? Then yes all of our watches are REAL!

I used to have this overeager impulse to tell anyone that notices my watch that "ITS A REP!", but it was not self satisfying, or making me feel like im staying in good keeping with my character (by being true to ones self and others), which is what I wanted to do.

I don't go out of my way to announce my watch is a rep anymore. Let them figure it out themselves.

If anyone ever asked whether my watch is real or fake, I would answer "It cost enough - I hope I got what I paid for." And that answer would go for either gen or rep.

I've actually done that before; once when someone asked if the Hermes I bought for my wife was real I said "I hope so". It got a chuckle and deflected the situation.

Good points in this thread.
I´m still telling everybody who asks that my reps are reps.
The result of that is that everybody believes that my gen DJ is fake to.
And since everybody in my near surrounding knows about my obsession about reps, it would be hard for me to pass a gen as a gen, not to mention a rep as a gen. ;)

as one guy told his wife who was impressed with her new rep:
"Wow. I can't believe it's not real"
"It's 'real'. It's just not 'genuine'".

So, more deflection ammo to that question.

I have only been asked about my sub as to whether or not it is real. Both times I have taken it off and handed it to them and said " you tell me" They will usually look it over and then start to tell you and everyone else that it is definitely real. Morons.

I figure anyone that would ask you that is either a buddy of yours or some no-class jackass. Or both! LOL

And our buddies generally know that we can't afford a 10K watch. So...can we blame them for asking?

that is the way to go, do this every time, the question if it is a rep does not even come up. ( Well at least not for me, all my watches a highly modded )
