After wanting one for a couple years, I managed to grab a second hand Monta Triumph off eBay here in the UK. Very few Monta watches seem to come up for sale over here, as importing them from new has chunky VAT and import tax to add on - which has stopped me buying new.

Very pleased with the one I did pick up for a decent price. It's a 2018 model, but in excellent condition. The overall build quality is excellent and the bracelet is as lovely as they say it is - very comfortable and every edge of the watch feels smooth and soft. I love how thin it is as well, coming in at just under 10mm. Quality wise it feels in line with my Ginaults. Movement looks lovely behind the display case back as well.

I really like the look of the Skyquest in black - https://montawatch.com/products/monta-skyquest-black-dial-black-aluminum-bezel. Might have to buy that one new at some point.

I really like Monta watches, not grabbing one because of your same reasons (import duties from US). They look solid and very well made.

Not currently but I am a fan. Have had an Ocean King and a SkyQuest. They’re great. Not a fan of the newest versions, though.

Yep, it's a painful additional cost. In the UK they seem to come up for sale on eBay once every 4-6 months, so choice is limited and I've lost out on 3 previous listings. Got this one for £740 delivered, so very happy.

I love Monta. I always seem to miss them to or they come up at bad times. I even liked their original diver with the more unique movement and thought it was ballsy to come out swinging with the price they first charged. And there really wasn't a reason quality wise they couldn't charge that amount.

Just looked at skyquest new and old opaline versions on Random Rob's ytube channel (paused, didn't finish watching) and they are pretty different. I like the older version markers better but they're too close to the edge. Probably could have tweaked slightly and moved closer to the center. The new one does look better balanced as the dial goes but less interesting markers. Still looks good though and a good price for us yanks in the US.

Has the Triumph had any revisions since it came out? Yours looks great and it's so thin.

Yes, wish I was stateside to be able to get easier and cheaper access to their models.

The Triumph has had one round of revisions in 2020 (from what I've read). They added a very nice quick-adjust clasp plus the Triumph case has the Atlas bezel, with a more pronounced, polished, knife edge. The black version of the dial had the "Triumph" text changed from white to red (to match the silver/grey dial that I have). Aside from that, the current model looks pretty much the same as my 2018 version. Oh, they have brought out a green dial version this year.

I've only seen 4 Monta's coming up for sale on eBay here in the UK over the past 12 months (I've got alerts set up for them). Two Triumph's (I managed to get this second one) and two Nobles (both the silver Opalin dial versions). I tried to buy all of them when they were listed but they ended up selling for more than I was willing to spend (got this one for a good price).

I'm not that keen on the new Oceanking, but I do like the Skyquest. At £2k though (prior to vat/import tax), then I'm struggling to see myself £2,500 for one new, especially now I've already got a Monta. Though I'd consider picking one up for £1,500 if any came up on the second hand market.

I really want a Noble.
I thought that was going to be my first purchase as well, but this triumph popped up and couldn't lose out again! The noble's look really nice, though I'd probably end up going for the black dial variant.

Newer verson's look a bit too generic?
Yeah. I’m sure they’re super comfortable and I’m sort of tempted by the new Oceanking. But the Skyquest? Hard, HARD pass from me.

Not a fan of the new case design.

I’ll have to watch some more videos, as I was keen on the Skyquest but probably haven’t paid enough attention to the case.

Always liked them. When they pop up occasionally on eBay I tend to have a good look and sometimes bid. Never had one though, one of those itches that's never been scratched. Looks great!

It’s sort of a maxi-cushion case. I don’t like how it looks.
