Hi all. Just received my clean 116713LN, is it safe to give the bracelet a bath in baby oil? I usually do this with all my reps and find that it makes a huge difference but have never had a gold plated rep before.

I have seen this many times before, so when I had a genistein AP built by Legend, I asked him if I should do a baby oil bath, and he laughed and so no. He said that isn't really good for watches otherwise, AP, Rolex, and others would do it from the factory. But who knows.

The biggest enemy of plating is oxidation which can be facilitated by moisture and air. As oil is inherently hydrophobic, I would expect that oil on the bracelet might actually protect the plating... I can't say for certain though.
How do you like the Gmt ? Thinking about order the same as you or the bluesy can’t really decide

The bath in baby oil does absolutely nothing. It's a placebo effect. Idk where this myth started from but it's ridiculous.

On a side note :
The Cape Cod Polishing Cloth contains:
~5% Vegetable oil
~5% Fine Polishing Compound
~10% Light Oil (light machine oil)
~1% Perfume
~79% Cotton Cloth
Ie oil might be hard on plated gold. Wrapped will hold up better.

Well it might have the effect of temporarily making the bracelet feel all smooth and like a baby's bum - but after that honeymoon period, it'll begin merrily collecting crap and debris and storing it in-between the links to create a nice abrasive sludge that will start rubbing away at the metal.
It's a stupid idea. No one in their right mind should do it.
Then I would have liked to show you my Breitling before the baby oil bath and afterwards or better said you should have listened to the clattering before the oil bath.
And yes, it smells good.

You do realize a small amount of hand soap and rinse with water will achieve the same result, that's what Rolex recommends on gen watches when sometimes clanky from factory.Then I would have liked to show you my Breitling before the baby oil bath and afterwards or better said you should have listened to the clattering before the oil bath.

If you feel that just washing the bracelet in soap does the trick for you, then stick to it. For others there's Bergeon stick and/or buffing compounds, dry lubricant and/or baby oil. If you want to get rid of some excess grease or oil you can wash it with soap later.
For the allergic or or ocd kind of person there's also ultrasonic cleaners that does magic to bracelets and other jewelry.
