No, no, I mean the business which is creating these watches for the “rich and famous” who are afraid of wearing their gens in public. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, I think you are correct, If these watches are being produced in a jurisdiction that has ruled the production of watches illegal then they are illegal. Enforcement of these rules is another question. I think enforcement is sometimes de-prioritized in the regimes where these watches are produced. What is more important? Stopping violent crime or stopping fake watches? Enforcement resources are always limited.

I don’t think you’re going to stop violent crime by thieves stealing reps off the wrists of wealthy people. They’ll still take their chances and after the watch, they’ll go for other pieces of jewelry. This is ridiculous; the company is simply trying to profit by selling 200 dollar watches for two grand. The mugging will continue, the break-ins as well, car-jacking, etc. Places like LA are turning into shit holes. I moved to southern Spain 17 years ago, and I have never looked back. Where I live, there is still crime, but it's non-violent.

Yes Spain is beautiful. You are very luck to live there. Can I ask you a question? Is it legal to wear a fake watch in Spain?

Thank you. Yes, it is illegal to own one. However, I highly doubt any beat cop is going to question what I have on my wrist. At the moment, I don’t own any reps, but if and when I do, I won’t worry about it. Now this “artisan” in London mods these watches, but they magically get sent to LA in the USA. This is illegal. What happens to one of us who orders a watch from a non-EU country, or you who orders a watch, say from Spain, and it gets seized in customs? It gets destroyed, plain and simple. So, please tell me how this London bloke can mod watches and legally ship them to the US? Are there two sets of rules? They will start the same with designer bags shortly. Of course, all this is illegal. I imagine it’s just like everything; it all boils down to who you are, and how wealthy or powerful you happen to be. Two sets of rules, and they will always exist.

I'm not sure what the answer to your question is. I think you would have to talk to the London bloke's lawyers.

I have enjoyed this post, but I am still not clear why you started it. Are you upset with:

1) un-equal priviledges for the elite;
2) violence in Los Angeles
3) the state of Law and order
4) the existence of replica watches.

Something drove you to post this. Which was it? (all of the above is OK)

Cheers

Just simple conversation about something I find strange. No hidden agenda, sorry.

The chances of the newspaper having all of the facts right are next to zero - accidentally, on purpose, or both, so debating it on a macro level is a bit pointless.

My take -

Some guy in London isn't making anything - he hits up Sead every time a client needs a watch and bills his client an extra £1,500 each time.

Shipping - either the rich LA guy sends a mule to Heathrow to collect it, or the Guy in London sends a mate with the watch - that may account for some of the extra £

That’s good to hear. We’re opening a store there this month and the recent few incidents worried me a little bit.

I've lived in BH for the past 15 years, and I've noticed that BHPD is always on their A-game with keeping everyone in the area safe...sometimes to a fault, but better safe than sorry.
