I bought a submariner kit Dial PVD Case + which is supposed to fit ETA 2824-2 And 2836-2.
The problem is that the date window does not align with the date disc of 2824 that I have in my possession. The dial feet eta option fit's ok.

Is there a difference for the date window between asian 21j and swiss eta 2824-2836???

I am assuming that you are trying to use a Rolex Sub rep dial.

You are correct. The date wheel on a stock ETA 2824-2 or 2836-2 movement does not align with a Rolex Sub dial date window. You have to use what is called a "date wheel overlay" that is afixed to the stock date wheel. It must be carefully aligned and glued on. It is kinda tricky and can take some trial and error.

You can get a WM9 date wheel overlay from BK at [email protected] for $20. Just email him.

However, I would like to know if I should add a spacer between the dial and the movement for the datewheel turns freely. So it is that there is enough space for the hour hand turns without hanging after you install the overlay datewheel??

There is your other problem. if you put an overlay and a spacer for the overlay to have clearance, you need to get a tall H-5 cannon pinion, hour and minute wheels to raise the hands above the dial.

can i do my project only by adding the date overlay??

(without changing cannon pinion, hour and minute wheels for long version)

Is this feasible?

I wouldn't do it without those parts because your hands will stick up like this.

Is it feasible? Sure it is. :)

Yes, I have.

With the 2836-2, I have had no problem with using a stock movement. The date wheel overlay does not add any thickness to the overall package as the dial spacer still sets where it would anyway. It just makes for less room for the date wheel to turn without binding.

You must be very careful when you glue on the overlay to not have any buildup of glue that would make the thickness more than need be. I use an adhesive from Loctite called Repair Extreme...just a smear in about 3 - 4 spots. You want to be able to remove the overlay if you ever need to so don't use something that is too tenacious.

Some have told me that they used a smear of silicone. Just keep it thin or your date will change sluggishly or not at all.

You'll see...the WM9 dwo is a very thin piece of foil.

bee, I learned the hard way. :) See if your dealer can sell you a movement ETA clone with the datewheel. It should have the proper height wheels and such. Then keep the movement you have or flip it as a spare.

He is replacing it with a stock 2824 though right?

Both of these watches have stock movements that I purchased from someone other than a rep dealer. They have had no mods except for the DWO.

This is a Noob LV that I built.

Jump I did as you suggested on a 2824. I kept it as thin as it would go. I even took the print off the ETA datewheel underneath. The hands worked but I noticed they were at an angle. It drove me nuts.

So it didn't work for me and I had a heck of time getting the datewheel not to drag. You seem like an accomplish watchsmith so I take your word on this one. :)

OP, go for it! :)
