After the EWF factory's great job on the OP41 I have high hopes for this new Cellini Date 50515 / 50519 which just appeared on Trustytime.io. It has five variants available which, although available from other factories, have not yet been repped well with awfully aligned hour markers. With a thickness of 12.5mm this should not be a hard watch to replicate!

Official specs from Rolex are:

MODEL CASE
39 mm, 18 ct white gold, polished finish
DIAMETER
39 mm
MATERIAL
18 ct white gold, rose gold
BEZEL
Double bezel, domed and fluted
WINDING CROWN
Flared screw-down winding crown with Rolex emblem
CRYSTAL
Domed sapphire crystal
WATER RESISTANCE
Waterproof to 50 metres / 165 feet

Specs from Trusty;

MOVEMENT: Nickel Plated Asia Clone 3165 Calibre Automatic Movement, Decorated Insignia Rotor, with all markings of the Rolex 3165 Calibre
CASE DIAMETER: 39mm (1:1 Case like Genuine)
THICKNESS: 12.5mm
DIAL COLOR: White Dial with Stick Markers

18K Rose Gold Plated Solid Stainless Steel 316F
BRACELET: Croc Leather Strap with Tang Buckle

The Cellini Moonphase is a cool watch. I recently approved QC on one. Markers can indeed be problematic. I went through several before getting one that is pretty much OK

This model is made by both BP and GMF, the only difference being 316 vs 904. It has a fully functioning moonphase, though you have to "interpret" the display. Like everything, it's easy once you know the secret.

Nice to see that, contrary to opinion, I'm not the only Cellini fan here. I never realised the Rolex site showed the real time and moonphase. How cool! No idea how to read that moonphase but it sure looks stunning,. The alignment of the markers on the existing models is so often garbage that I never was even tempted to pull the trigger. I guess we will see if the EWF gets that right.

Take a look at the chart that comes in the user guide

You can learn this a number of ways, I like to create memory cues to remember stuff. In the Northern Hemisphere, which I see is where you are from also, these memory cues work for me.

Using only the full moon (meteorite) icon as a reference:

As the icon moves DOWN ON THE RIGHT, the moonphase also shrinks DOWN ON THE RIGHT

As the icon moves UP ON THE LEFT, the moonphase also grows UP ON THE LEFT

HOW MUCH the moonphase shrinks or grows is proportional to its clock position. The chart displays thinking of it in fourths - 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, etc. Since 30 isn't evenly divisible by 4, I like to additionally think of it in terms of sixths. 5 min mark = 1/6, 10 min = 1/3, 15 min = 1/2, 20 min = 2/3, 25 min = 5/6, 30 min = FULL (or NEW). This makes it more precise and takes out some of the guesswork between increments.

With a few minutes of study and thought, you can learn the interpretation and you can quickly and accurately know the real moonphase. It's like a secret code depiction that only a few understand.

In the Southern hemisphere it's reversed so those users could think of it in terms of "DOWN TO the right and UP FROM the left"

Excellent, thank you. A very pretty moonphase. I think you'd get used to reading it quickly enough, even if it lacks the immediate legibility of, for example, a JLC Master Ultra Thin with its typical fan-shaped moon display.

I’m a big Cellini fan and have been waiting for a decent one! This looks promising and I am curious to see what they will look like in person.

Great knowledge drop as well, KJ. Thanks!

I love the Cellini as well. But honestly, if I was buying any Cellini model other than the Moonphase, I would just pick up a shitter off DH Gate, These Cellini models have such terrible marker alignment from the factory that to me, it doesn't really matter how well replicated the rest of the watch is. It's always going to look suspect. I am planning to pick up a Moonphase soon, and I dread the QC process because I know I'm going to have to cycle through at least a couple until I find one with passable marker alignment.

Which factory did you end up going with for your Moonphase? Just curious because I am about to pull the trigger on the same watch, and am debating which factory to go with.

You are not wrong. I've been very impressed with the EWF OP41 though, which is why I posted this thread. This gold and black one is very nice.

I never pay more for *stated* 904L and that's the only difference between the GMF and BP. Mine is a BP. Those are the only two that got enough things right for me to pull the trigger.

It's an incredibly beautiful watch, for sure. I like the JLC ultra thin as well, but in terms of sheer beauty, I don't think it comes even close to the Moonphase.

As an amatuer astronomer, moonphase watches have always been of great interest to me. Haven't yet pulled the trigger on a rep, perhaps this is the one to do so....
