I am not sure if this is the right place to post this or not, so if it is not, please let me know, and I will remove it.

I am currently on the hunt for a builder who could make me a ref. 1675 from 1978/79. This has become somewhat of a grail watch for me, and as I am sure you all know, it becomes something that you obsess over. Can someone point me in the right direction of a few builders who could be of assistance?

Depends on budget. You have three main routes;

1. Budget cartel
2. More expensive Milk case
3. Top end Vietnam case

here’s what tripdog can do with a cartel;

Here’s a nice comparison of three builds by kilowattore ;

Here’s what can be done with a VN case/ dial etc.;

This thread has lots of info on a Milk build;

this one by yodog has some info on a VN case;

this thread is basically your question (maybe do a search in future);

Excellent rabbit hole to go down… My favorite reference as well. Here’s some inspiration.

HELLO VIETNAM!!

Just for clarity that isn’t a 1675. It’s a 16710 with white gold surrounds (iirc) and ‘GMT MASTER II’ clearly written on the dial. Later bracelet too. It could always be a 1675 with later dial, but the hand stack is incorrect for a 1675, which suggests it’s a much later model with a later movement.

It is a 16710 with VR3186. Not quite sure how my dyslexia let me read 1675 as 16710. Regardless, hope it’s some inspo for OP.

Yes-beautiful example. Tempted by the 16710, but I love the 1675 with all it’s ‘challenges’ in terms of collecting somewhat accurate parts (hands/ plexi/ lowbeat converted movement etc. Etc.). How’s the 16710? Everything kinda ‘drops in’?

Completely understand that sentiment. I have a friend who is looking to let his viet franken 1675 go. Gen bracelet/insert among other gen parts. Going to be hard to pass on it. The Viet cases on the 16710 accept all gen parts, insert without sanding, etc. I am currently running a jf sub bracelet which is spot on IMO

Thanks for all the info. I look forward to having someone build me a top end 1675 in the future. I have little mechanical inclinations myself.

Has your friend sold his 1675? If its in the US, I might be interested if the quality and price is right. Not sure I want to deal with customs and possible issues.
