Hi RWI community!

I am happy to share my first newbie build of this custom Tudor Date + Day build!

I know that these are just baby-step compared to what others are building, but hey everyone got to start somewhere right? haha. So just leave your thoughts and comment on this build and where can I improve moving forward.

Al rightly! Here we go!

Items you require

1)Base (Case and Movement)
Bulova Super Seville Day & Date (Genuine ETA 2834) -Ebay (Estimated around USD 90-150)

2)Dial
Tudor Date & Day Dial - Ebay (Estimated around USD 70-85)

3)Crown
Genuine Rolex 14k Gold 6mm Crown (OEM or replacement Rolex gold crown is not suitable as the gold plating will wear off within 3 month of use) -Ebay (Estimated around USD 29-45)

Total Damage for this Franken build USD 260

Additional things to do:
Engrave serial and model number on the Lugs
Find a replacement back cover for the case (Currently it using the branded bulova back case)
Find a genuine Tudor 2834 movement (Only if Budget allows!), otherwise just the Tudor branded Rotor =P

I like it! Did the crown and dial fit without further modification?

Yes the crown and dial fits perfectly, because as the gen Tudor & Bulova both are using the same movement ETA 2834, the dial feet seating is perfect as per the date and day display.

Hello

Having owned several bulova sevilles (about 5 super sevilles) I can attest to the good quality of the parts. Although I would rather get a steel bulova case. The gold, even though it is wrapped and not plated, is very easy to rub off or flake at some point sooner or later.

Also it does look very nice because the bulova fluted bezel is quite good (no rep bezel comes even close) but here are some major points that differentiates it from a genuine Tudor Date + Day

The case shape is very different: The case is alot larger, the lugs are more a resemblance of a 5 digit daydate 18238 but the case is very unique for example the backside of the case has a small increment, a gen rolex caseback most likely wont fit. The case is alot fatter than any gen rolex dd or dj case and very different in overall form and shape which is unique to bulova.

The gen Tudor Date + Day case is basically just a datejust 5 digit case (16200/16234) while the bulova seville only accepts a president bracelet as the lugs are closer together and the lug end shape is formed like on a 5 digit rolex daydate (with a small increment on the case side). That means it only accepts the president bracelet with the 55B endlinks or the stock bulova seville bracelet but NOT any datejust bracelet as the endlinks wont fit! Riyi02 president bracelets will fit.

Compare the Tudor Date + Day case to the Bulova seville one

Another major point is that there never was a fully gold Tudor Date + Day. The dial you got is from a two-tone model, full precious metals rolex are exclusive to Rolex such as the Daydate or Datejust. This is the model:

Why do I know this? I wanted to franken my steel bulova seville but ended up selling all the parts including the seville (I am such an idiot!!) I needed the money for personal reasons unfortunately :( I am sure I will never get such a good bulova or rolex dial again

Here a pic of my seville, the gen rolex dial and a gold one I used to own.

Your build is very creative and while it is alot different from gen no one will be able to tell anyways as the overall quality of the parts is much better than using rep parts!

Btw most likely your Bulova uses a mineral crystal, I would look to replace that with a gen rolex one, clarks or strenlreuz (cheaper), I am quite sure they fit, just measure the stock one out. Bulova sevilles only came with mineral or acrylic crystals (never sapphire as some ebay sellers falsely claim). 99 percent are mineral (my steel had an acrylic one though)

I did get a twbest 18239 and a gen whitegold crown for a new franken project but I am still looking for a gen rolex 18239 whitegold black stick dial (which are very rare and si ******** expensive).

I would not recommend to replace the movement or engrave the case as the stock movement is of very good quality already and also a swiss made eta one. Engraving gold is problematic because it is very sensible on such a vintage watch! Maybe just service the movement

Thanks @gamba66 for your insightful thought. I do have plans to replace the crystal with a sapphire one. :)

Awesome reply @gamba66.

I would love to compile a list of gen cases that would make good donors for franken builds. Sadly, I don't have the knowledge required or I would.

Here is my franken. JMB Date Day case set which I believe is from Raflles, GEN dial, and Bulova ETA 2834. Pricey rep but I had a Gen 94510 and there is no difference other than the price.

this is very interesting!
great idea and nice mod OP

not too long ago was is thinking about modding a cheaper "gen homage" similar to rolex/tudor day date or datejust
since no TD seem to sell those vintage models like a 1601..

also it seems like bulova doesnt sell the seville anymore, at least i couldnt find it on their website

a possible and cheap alternative could be a parnis president
they have a 21j miyota inside
i would never wear a stock parnis, because in my opinion a real rep is more honest than this dull homage shit
but if parts like dial, hands and crown would fit this could be a nice budget mod

anybody tried this already?

2020 Update: I just managed to replace the hands and gotten a proper leather strap.

This watch is still holding up well!

Meanwhile, I have gotten a Gen Rolex white gold day date.
