I got mine the other day. The plating was incredibly bad, very patchy. Not the fault of the TD, who was superb throughout the process, as it looked like adhesive marks from the stickers in QC.
Anyway, I took a chance and decided to retreat the case. Cleaning did nothing, but gentle polishing with gold balsam revealed they are using some crap on top of their plating up give it the rich 'Rolex' look, probably the same alloy they use with the RG models.
Anyway, the crystal inside was full of marks, stem was bent and the movement dry. Don't expect the greatest quality to be coming out of the factories right now.
Incidentally, I compared the colour to the gen after the polish. Much closer. I guess quality control is not great right now, which is understandable.
My advice is get these things serviced and don't expect too much on the plating. It is clearly thicker than the old days of getting a few wears out of them before they turn yellow, but whatever they are using to achieve the extra durability, most likely nickel mixed with something, I don't know what I'm no expert, they either aren't applying a high level of factory acceptance to, or it's producing some kind of reaction with the adhesive they are using.
The dial is excellent and case shape really nice. But don't be hard on your TD if you have issues, and by all means if you notice what appears to be patchy plating, hit me up and I'll walk you through what to do. It won't help the longevity of your watch but it will at least give it some consistency and make it wearable for a bit.
