amazing - i have a regmariner too
actually really like the watch, it looks very good for the amount of money it cost
thinking about modding it too

so please keep us posted on updates :)

Very nice!

Thank you. However, if possible for most people, i still recommend buying a noob v9 instead of going through this. This project is done for fun and for my friend's bday.

lol

What a fun project. Nice job on that case too!

Thanks Jon!

Great job on the case work so far man. Just curious though, do you think the date font is a bit thick?

I think the font isn't that bad. I've seen some bolder gen Rolex 3135 date disc too. I am most concerned about the dial and hands for now. I also got a Raffles DWO too.

ahhhh, so this is what you were talking about! Great project!! Hope you'll receive my package soon! lol

Thanks man! I got the parcel yesterday but i ran into a problem. Will update this thread later

LOL bro you are wild. Subscribing to this build, The devil is in the details and you are an Exorcist.

lol i chuckled at the way how you put it. Once i have become more comfortable with reshaping, I am going to start making canal street reps as gen as possible xDD

Thats a really nice gesture to your friend.
I always enjoy these type of projects.

Keep the photos and updates coming.

Sure. Got an update soon

This is hardcore.. :worthy:

But I can't help but think, all this herculean effort to improve the case, what will you do for the dial and especially bezel insert since that screams fake the most?

I do a lot of modding and franken-ing so this is all the usual fun for me. The main value of this project is the gesture I do to this watch and gift it back to my friend for his birthday.

I am making it as gen as possible, not 1:1.

Also, all the rep hulk bezel insert out there is nothing like gen. My friend can live with the regmariner bezel insert and it isn't that bad, IMO.

pompompurin keeps surprising us with fun builds/mods! Love it bro! :D

One day, I will get some Dhgate canal street subs and try to make them as gen as possible lol!

What's in the package?

V9 noob hulk dial

Cool project, what insert will you use?

I will stick with the regmariner insert. It isn't the worse IMO and my friend can live with it. I am more worried about the dial and hands at the moment

Step 6: Checking if a Noob V9 ETA hulk dial fits
Thanks to VaderTime, my hulk dial arrived!

Unfortunately, when the Noob V9 dial is fitted into the Regmariner case, the dial's minute dashes are floating and not touching the rehaut. This shows that the rehaut diameter of the Regmariner is either wider than gen or not angled properly:

I measured the Noob V9 dial and its diameter is ~27.75mm wide.

I also measured the rehaut diameter of the Regmariner case and it is ~27.55mm:

The Regmariner case can take dials with a maximum diameter of ~28.48mm

Therefore, I am now in search of a decent Hulk (or 116610 LN) dial that is at around 28-28.5mm wide. Back to finding parts!

Also, here is what the Noob V9 dial looks like when fitted onto an ETA 2878 with Raffles DWO

Seeing your post has started me off on some light mods. Just finished oil bath and brushing of the bracelet. Also worked on the clasp to make it less sharp on the sides.

Eagerly waiting for the movement transplant.

I might not transplant another movement inside. It all depends on if i could source Noob ETA sub hands (i got OCD for hands) and the right dial

Glad you received the package!

That is odd that the dial didn't fit properly, I was hoping to see that dial on your finished project since I really liked the sunburst on it lol

Step 7 - reshaping the clasp's thumb recess and brushing the bracelet
At the moment, I am still searching for a 116610 ETA dial that is 28-28.5mm wide. My priority is to find a dial that (1) has decent chromalight lume and (2) has chapter lines (minute/ second dashes) that extend all the way to the rehaut, like gen.

I spent last night reshaping the clasp's thumb recess and brushing the bracelet.

Before using a dremel and modifying the clasp's thumb recess, notice that the thumb recess area isn't quite like genuine that extends closer to the edge:

I barely have much experience with the dremel. Here is my first attempt at widening the thumb recess:

Final result (with clasp + bracelet brushing):

What about a BP dial?

Step 8 - DWO swap/ realignment + install better hour hand
I've pretty much given up on finding a 28-28.5mm Hulk dial. But I haven't given up on trying to make the watch as gen as possible. Therefore, I decided to swap the dwo and install a better hour hand.

I have a pet peeve for bad watch hands and the stock Regmariner's hour hand is so damn obvious and it is an instant tell -- to me at least.

Before starting to mod, here is a wristcheck! (gen 16013)
20191103-233324-1.jpg

First step is to open the caseback and take the movement out:
20191103-233452-1.jpg

Then I removed the dial and spacer:
20191103-233754.jpg

Removing the existing DWO requires the use of an arts & craft blade:
20191103-234021-1.jpg

The new DWO (from Raffles) is on the left:
20191103-234414-1.jpg

DWO installation takes patience and perseverance: sometimes you could get it aligned perfectly immediately. On other occasions, it could take much longer, like an hour.

Installed my better-looking hour hand:

Installed the other hands and reassembled the watch:

20191104-005119.jpg

Lumeshot!
20191104-005340.jpg

I think this is it. This is the final mod to the watch. Thank you for reading.

Looks pretty good man, unfortunate you couldn’t find the dial you were looking for but the project as a whole is definitely a success! Let us know what your buddy thinks lol

I am not sure about my friend's level of OCD, but I like to prepare for the worst responses:
- Why is the seconds hand still wrong?
- Why is the minute/ seconds dial dashes floating?
- Why is the crown height low?
- Why doesn't it have blackhole effect?
- Why is the LEC quite visible?
- Why is the crownguard shorter than gen?
- Why is it lowbeat?
- Why is it not setting time like a 3135?!
- why is the SEL/ lug look funny?!
- why does the clasp look funny?
- why does it take 1.8mm springbar and not 2.0mm?!
- why doesn't the dial typography match gen?!
- why does the pearl look funny?
etc.. and dun even get me started on the colour of the bezel and bezel font
