Okay... so while i was browsing through gen Panerai pictures, i kept noticing how different the pins on them crown guards were different with our reps. I already knew how gen pins were chambered on the top that gives it the recessed look. A common misconception is how the pin is recessed by a hair line which is what most modders practice for their crown guard mods. I wanted something more, something gen like and i knew Noob cg pins have a similar gen like appearance so i took out my Noob crown guard, removed the pin and tried to study it under the loupe. Well well, all this while Noob has already done the chamfering for us. However the common issue with Noob cg pins is that they are not flush with the crown guard, usually extruding out a little.
So all that's left is to push the pin back into the crown guard and we will have a gen like appearance on the cg. However, i tried pushing in with a chopstick and even used a rubber hammer but no luck. Apparently, the bottom tip of the cg pin is a little too fat as the factory did not shave them properly. So, out came my dremel tool and its diamond bit. CAREFULLY, i shaved the edge of the pin's bottom where the grooves are, slightly shortening it along the way. It took a few tries to prevent over shaving and i had to regularly push the pin back into the cg to check if its enough.
Here comes the 'barbaric part' of the mod. After a few attempts, the pin was finally flushed with the cg. However, another issue appeared. When i fixed back the lever and pushed back the pin, i came to notice that the pin was a little lose. A few rounds of pulling out the lever will make the pin extrude again. To fix that, i applied some super glue (yes) on the back part of the crown guard pin hole. Once dried, pin was all good i can't be any happier. No pin polish or shaving will get me this look that i want.
The result:
Sorry for the lack of real pictures as i was too focused on the mod. Hope the diagrams can help yall to get the gen like effect!
A gen cg pin for reference:
