January not only marked the introduction of the most number of new Submersible reps, but also the release of many 42mm replicas, like the PAM512, PAM338 and the PAM337. I went with the newest Radiomir 1940 rep, the PAM00512.
The original watch was released two years ago in 2013, along with the PAM513, PAM514 and PAM515, the first being the same watch albeit in Rose Gold and the latter two being 47mm Radiomir 1940s. The pairs of Radiomir 1940s also differed in the movement used, with the PAM512 and PAM513 using the P.999 movement while the larger PAMs using the P.3000 movement. Both in-house movements are manual wind.
The replica came from TSWatch (Mark) although the V6F PAM512 can be bought from any other TDs as it is not an exclusive release. This review will be short as there aren't that many features but I will go through the same format.
CASE : MIDDLE CASE, CG, BEZEL
The case is a polished stainless steel case of the Radiomir 1940s design. It is a hybrid in that it does not have a crownguard like conventional Radiomirs, however the lug system is copying the use of fixed lugs in Luminors, rather than lug wires in the conventional Radiomir case. The size is 42mm, with the lug width at 22mm, the same as would a Luminor case of the same size. I do not have a wristshot of the watch as apparently, the rep strap at the smallest hole still does not fit me (as in it is too large ). I do have a picture of the watch though.
The case is a slim cushion profile, similar to the PAM532, Paneristi Forever limited edition, although in a smaller format.
The strap change system is the same in that it is not screw-in but using a springbar mechanism to remove the lugbar to be able to change the strap.
There is no crown guard to the 1940s series so no comparison. The crown though has the lovely OP logo in a relief on the face.
The bezel is the same as gen, polished steel. Nothing remarkable to report.
DIAL : DIAL, SUBDIAL, MARKERS, CP
The dial is black with patinated luminous hour markers and the hand lume matching the color of the hour markers. The color I initially thought should be a little bit more orange in the rep based on my first pictures, but after retaking them, the color looks to be fine. The RADIOMIR PANERAI text is placed nicely on the dial and is of the correct shade. Left is rep, right is gen.
First shot
Second shot
These were taken in slightly different lighting and the lume color is now better.
The subdial placement is fine but the color needs to be a little more patinated or orangey same as the hands and hour markers.
The CP is sunken and not by a small margin.
However, RG member ATEspo has shown pictures that the CP is sunken even in gens. So the CP is a non-issue.
CASEBACK
The caseback is a display one, and as such shows the nice looking movement, albeit rotated 180 degrees compared to the gen.
The serial number is nicely engraved on the back. Nothing to complain abour.
The all important lume shot:
Here is a wrist shot showing the size of the PAM512 with another recent arrival the PAM569. The solo wrist shot is at the lume color shot earlier.
I can only classify the PAM512 rep as a first class rep of high level, considering the differences between it and the gen. You'll have to accept that the movement cannot be replaced as of the moment and good looking as it is, anyone with a passing knowledge of the gen would know the difference.
I hope that you guys find the review useful. It is a good rep, especially for those whom the 44mm PAMs are simply too big for their wrists.
