How to center the date at a PAM389 (A7750 movement) tutorial

I read a lot about not centered date wheels at the PAM389 reps. Some guys reject watches just because of this issue.

So let's see how we can fix it.

First step, as always, remove your strap (should be no problem for a PAM-guy) and open the case back.

I use some gloves for this job, these are grip or sticky gloves and this works very well. You can also use a sticky ball or any other case open tool.

Remove the black gasket

And the "antimagnetic" case. The cover has a little black arrow, underneath this arrow you find a slot where you can lift it with a screwdriver.

Now we see the A7750 movement decorated as a p.9000 movement.

Unfortunately we have to remove the main decorations for this job.

Ok, the first step is removing the rotor. The three little screws at the rotor are just deco and glued. You can remove this screws and the deco plate with a tweezers.

Now you see the real rotor screw. Use your tweezers again to unscrew and remove the rotor

Next step is removing the main deco plate. This plate is fixed to the movement with just 3 screws. Remove the screws and lift the plate.

A lot of work just to find this two clips

a17c84ed965949ceb28df091a6933208.jpg

But we need this clips for the realignment. Because the dial at this watch is fixed with the case and the movement is fixed to the dial, with this two clips.
So is the watch sloppy assembled from the factory is the date wheel not aligned with the dial.

To fix this issue you have to remove first the CG and the crown.

Push careful this little bottom and remove the stem

5c6a6169c641a53be9f3955f19ba69aa.jpg

Now just loose the screws at the two clips. Don't unscrew, just make the screws a bit loose.

If this is done you can move the movement under the dial a bit to both sides.

And see what happens with the DW.

I don't set the date here. I just move the movement under the dial. Use a screwdriver and find a stable point at the movement to move it. For example this point

89667bc598b418cec8690c23b7787e07.jpg

The trick now is finding the middle at the date cutout. If this is done, just fix the two clips and the date is centered.

e24b64bcebbb9819c56dda3d78ad46ab.jpg

But notice, the small second hand at 9 moves also. So be careful. Is the date centered to the cut out should be the second hand also centered.

Now just assembly your watch at the same way and everything should be fine.

I just have a PAM389 from KW with the A7750 movement but i thing this should also work with a seagull movement because the case construction should be the same.
This should also work at a PAM438 with a A7750 movement.

Thanks for reading and fell free to ask if you have any questions

As I've mentioned before I don't know if I have the skills to dare attempt this, but thanks for posting as it is nice to know that if anybody wanted to try it, they have a simple, step by step, graphic procedure to help them thru it. Thanks

Thanks for the great work Chris.

Question for you....my KW-382 bezel is not centered at 12. Its around half a click off.

Can the dial be moved slightly one way and what about the movement? I'm worried about re-fixing the stem if the movement is moved.

On my 243, the bezel is a cap. I carefully pry'd that off and replaced with the proper alignment. I am not really certain how this diver is made but I bet it is very similar.

Just a suggestion!
Can we have a "how to" sticky containing links to all these marvellous "how to tutorials"?
Many thanks for sharing Chris.

@senna
Sorry but I don't know. I never had a 382 in my hand, so I don't know the case construction.

I second that.
PAM section is very busy and these could go easily lost in the traffic :)

I think that is a great idea, too....it would be a pity if these tutorials get lost within all the other threads, as they are timeless and very helpful....if you got the skills to do this, or even dare to have a try....I don't have skills and had courage so far but maybe someday at least give it a try ;)

thanks, Chris! great tutorial!

how about something like waterproofing for dummies?

Maybe it is a good idea but many sticky threads could get more confusion.

We can nominate a member who starts a thread about tutorials, then people can include posts with the links to found tutorials (in this forum and even from other fora). If the thread is good enough I could get it sticky.

The member nominated to make this thread will have to edit his first post of the thread, in order to include in a well organized way all the links to the found tutorials, ordering them by types. Since I will have abilities to edit the first post I could cooperate in the edition

I really have no time to update such a thread, just to cooperate and give advices.

Please members interested in making this thread let us know your name. We will chose the final member by a consensus or a poll

I have to say that start a post is very easy and even fun, but after a month of making updates, things are different

Let me know your ideas

Thanks for taking the time to write this tuto Chris. I tried this on my watch and to my surprise I did not find any movement clamps/screws. On the other hand I found an extra canonpinioncap and two extra of the outer rings on strap quick chnge system rattling around!
