Hey guys,

I screwed up the asian 2836 in one of my GMT reps while trying to change the dial/fix the datewheel. Can I just replace it with a DG3804?

I don’t really want to deal with another 2836.

Thanks!

Maybe you should go for an ETA, worth the money.

I think you have to give more info about the watch involved. The 3804 will have to fit inside your model case and your dial/hands will have to adapt to the movement.

I’d recommend you buy an ETA 2836, take it to a competent watchsmith and ask him to transfer over the GMT parts off your broken movement to the new one. Then install the new movement into your original case. It’s an easy job and it should fit into your case without problems. You will have a reliable watch for a long time, or until you start messing with it again (lol).

Esslinger can order a Swiss ETA 2836 for $300. I just talked to them the other day.

Ive bought from the Boss many times - solid vendor. Swap in your old DW, dial and hands, stem and crown and done. Seagull 2836 movements are great I have a few running untouched OOTB for two years.

I can second KJ's endorsement of bosshua007...I too have bought several items from him with no issues whatsoever. Even sent a complete second watch kit when I complained about the case threads on a recent build...

I’ve seen a few on Amazon for low prices - what do you think about this one?

GENUINE ETA 2836-2 NEW WATCH MOVEMENT FOR AUTO DAY DATE GOLD 3H GOLD SWISS MADE https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D6SVHBV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fab_52rDFbKHZNB76

Never bought one from WSO but if you want a gen, these are good. I've used several. Direct from Bienne, SWATCH HQ. You can get an Elabore or Top grade for the price of the WSO.

Would a 2824 fit with some form of dial spacer - I know the stem height is different due to the slimmer movement height but the spacer would compensate for the difference?

2824 seems more readily available and cheaper.

You need a Hangzhou 6460 GMT module which is what your watch had. An ETA 2836 does not have a GMT function.

A native 2824 cannot provide the GMT function. The 2824 CHS timebomb can, because it's been modded with extra GMT bits, an elevated datewheel, and a thicker dial spacer.

Why CHS GMT movements fail
