Hi ,

So after wasting £30 on the incorrect spine tool despite a whole afternoon of searching I still cant find any info on this , I bought a 702 crown and tube set from Atheya but the 3.00mm tube tool is wayyy to big

Does anyone know the correct spline tool size that is required ?

You could ask Athaya, see what he says.
I think the 702 tube is tricky. You could try threading it in with the crown. Leave the two inside gaskets out of the tube and then pukey the threads of the tube with some loc-tite (aka thread locker) and install it with the crown as far as you can. Let it dry before you remove the crown. If that's not enough, try the old rat tail file. Jam it in there and twist, but not too hard. I believe the 702 threads are like the 703 tube threads- 3.0mm X .35- would be a good idea to use the tap to clean the threads before you try to install the tube. Rolex quit using the 702 tube and crown around 1980 with the intro of the 703 assembly.

I went through the exact same thing with Athaya. He suggested the tools to purchase to fit it and it didn't fit. It was the suggested tool size that the manufacturer told him. He said he was going to recheck but never got back to me.

Yeah i emailed him the other day but no reply as yet , i tried the rat tail file the first time round and damaged the tube as it got stuck on the damn file

I can get the tube in ok doing as you mention screwing it it with the crown but this time round it was just a test fit hand tightening it in but obviously tightened it too much and cant get the bugger back off to apply loctite / recess the case a but more.

Really bugs me as its such a simple thing as unscrewing something but they use that weird fine spline thing that seems hard and expensive to get tools for.

Torx is a good suggestion, or try some heat then the rat tail file, all else fails, I'd go to the 703 assembly- it's much more user friendly- especially if you get that little tool from Ofrei for tightening down the tube. I like the 703 case tubes from WSO. Used to be you could buy used 703 crowns on ebay for $25-50.

Tried Torx but there wernt enough splines on them compared to the hole :/

Since I havnt glued this one in yet il give the file another go but just really annoying that something as simple as selecting the correct size tool is holding this back :(

Like I said, the 702 tube is tricky- it was only around for 6-8 years. The 703 assembly has been in use for 30+ years so it's obviously better- more serviceable for sure and with the spline tool and a tap, it's an easy deal.
