This came up this past weekend and I just was naive to the popularity of this old school Tupperware. These are used daily, have been used daily since the early 70's and have been used in this house (my grand parents 44 yr old home) my whole life. This doesn't even include vintage dishes, vintage cookware, flatware and glassware like Fostoria.

Without further ado,

My spice containers...I have seen some with just a flower and no lable. I have a large yellow one but it has a blue lid. No clue where the rest is.

No clue where the flip tops are....shit been using these my whole life,,,every meal and in between. I wonder if those engineers new this shit would last 3-4 decades DAILY used....pretty cool.

This is cool and requires some research..Loma Ware Ft. Worth, Texas (locally made..cool)
Update: From what I can find this Loma Ware made flour/sugar canisters, bowls etc and was all mid 50's. I found a few items on eBay and Etsy...all 50's colors too..Pink, Yellow, Light Blue, Green etc.

I'll post up more later

I know Rudy....I was clueless but I think it is way damn cool we still use this old shit everyday without worry. Way better than some Chinese Walmart shit.

The old stuff is 10 times the quality of the new. Dad still uses a set of the original white nylon canisters, he has a good dozen of 'em that would have to be 40 years old and all are still perfect. The new stuff dies in four or five years. Still using the original lettuce holder as well.

Those happy times when noone knew about the obsolescence planned.
Exactly! Even Tupperware isn't made to last any longer. I don't buy the new stuff, I buy from a lady at markets who buys up good condition old stuff and resells it.

The very fact that even stuff like Tupperware isn't made as well as it could be (and that's what it boils down to) but made to die in a few years should be a wakeup call, we are being played for fools. Slick 50 (which used to owned by Swipe) is now owned by big oil. The old product you used once every 80,000 miles or so, it was a bugger to use (you had get the PTFE into suspension in the carrier oil) but the stuff just plain worked. Now they say every twelve months "or every other oil change", same price. I honestly doubt it works as well either. Everything now has a life and costs more to fix than to buy a new one and I hate it. How long does a fridge last now? Ten years tops? My parent's first fridge lasted 30 years. The pisser is that it doesn't cost that much more to make stuff that lasts, they just don't want to.

My parents had a set of the salt and pepper shakers, I'd forgotten all about them and assume they've been thrown away now...

The built-in obsolescence issue is a balance as far as I'm concerned; fail too soon and the consumer gets screwed, fail too late and the company (or shareholders) get screwed. My example is the best frying pan I've ever used, it belongs to my Dad and he got it from his grandfather, who probably bought it in about 1910. It's simple cast iron but is so over-engineered it has last over 100 years with no sign of wear, the company probably only lasted 20 years as they never had any repeat business due to the product being too good!

Ahh...nothing like Tupperware. My mom used to have Tupperware parties back in the 70s. They should make tires out of that stuff because you cannot wear it out.
