ZF Pelagos from a Divemaster

So this week I went on a trip and visited my cousin who is a PADI certified Divemaster. The guy gave me his ZF Pelagos as a gift. He tested the thing out of the box against his gen SD in the ocean. The watch worked beautifully! He continued to use it for several dives (along with his dive computer of course) w/o any issues. Since I'm his favorite cousin, he gave it to me as a gift! It is a nice looking watch. I polished it and now looks amazing. I do have two question for you guys. One, should I have the crown guards reshaped and if so by whom? Second, should I have Prof work his magic?

A prof crystal will always take it up a few notches. CG really doesn't bother me all that much.

What a nice gift! Lucky guy. Hope you get many years of enjoyment out of it!

Just wear it. No idea why anyone would wear it diving.

Congrats. If it´s so nicely "dive-certified" just use it and don´t touch anything imho.

Congrats.
I've got one of these that actually came directly from prof.
Do the prof upgrade.
The rep AR on these is actually quite good but a prof on this one will redefine the way you interpret "disappearing crystal".
I guarantee it.

I've been thinking a lot about this lately. What would happen if I changed the Xtal and then lost the WR? Would modding the crown guards have any impact on WR? It is a sweet watch as it is now. I contacted Prof but now I am not sure.

If he was diving with that with no issues leave it alone. Do not touch it. Do not open the case back. Just enjoy it. Don't F it up.

Changing the crystal isn't going to change it's WR capabilities.
Granted the seal would be cracked open at the crystal and case back gasket and the crown too if you can count that.
If it's capable of gen spec WR now, that's not going to change....if it's done correctly.
The actual reshaping of the CG's isn't going to directly impact it's abilities to be WR but in order to do the CG's, the same gaskets and seals will have to be cracked open.

But I'd have to agree with Tucker: if you're actually going to be diving with it your safest bet would be to leave it as is and enjoy it.
Maybe install gen spring bars and thread lock the bracelet link pins if that's not yet been done to prevent an unintended drop.

I'm amazing that prolonged diving and exposure to salt water and the sun hasn't effected the clasp.
I don't know about yours or others but while I've not yet experienced any issues with the clasp spring the rep is nowhere near as tempered as the gen.
But it is one awesome rep and the construction quality is amazing for the price :)

You are absolutely correct, the construction quality is amazing. The clasp did have a little rust when I got it but it was minimal. IMaybe I'll just wait until the watch needs to be serviced to do the mods. Do you know who can install gen spring bars and thread lock the bracelet link pins?
